I tried to enable my fans last night, on my running/driving swap, which uses an 03 Tahoe PCM. It do not know what I am doing wrong, but I could not get it to work, however I skipped all the AC commands because my swap does not have AC. Could this be the cause? I did a read entire when I was done and the turn on/off temps I entered were in the tune, I enabled the fans for series parallel under vehicle systems, BOOLEAN is not checked. PCM is not sending turn on signal to the fan relays.

So im dong an ls/vortec swap to an 70 El Camino. Donor Truck was a 2000 suburban with the 5.3 engine.. First I was able to disable Vats using universal Patcher and PCM hammer.. and it worked it started fine.. but the fans did not kick in.. so i thought it needs more messing around with the settings.... This is my 3rd PCM ECU I bricked when trying to enable the fans....(PCMs dont enable the fuel pump nor respond to a scanner) I tried flashing the original BIN from RECOVERY mode more than once. Flashing them with LS Droid or PCM Hammer. at 1x or 4x, Reflashing them at 14.2volts nothing brings them back to life. I get no errors when flashing them all results are successful. What did I do wrong? Flashing them at 12.3 volts? Or completely Disabling the Rear O2 sensors, EGR and Evap DTC codes? Please Help! ECUs/PCMs are expensive!

I am using the 2002 5.3 2wd escalade , and loaded the same xdf, But i do not see dynamic air flow, and a few other tables you changed. I See them if I load the wrong xdf file. What am I missing here

Is it the same version XDF since there are several versions of that one? Also it really doesn’t matter which XDF you use as long as it matches your operating system and the tables are there.

If you could gather used oem parts needed for a really low price from a self pull junk yard or other resource it’s the way to go. I wouldn’t jump in and buy all new and have hundreds of dollars in parts. I think I had a little over $90 in that set up I did in that video. $50 for the fans and 40 for the harness along the front with the fan fuse box. A little more than I wanted to pay but cheaper than people were listed them on marketplace. You having an 03 may need the wider radiator to get the oem fans to fit correctly. I was doing a 2500HD and it had the correct size radiator.

@brandongarnold my 03 Escalade has the LQ9 so I've got the larger radiator luckily. Stapleton42 on KZbin has a nice video where he installed a factory efan setup on a yukon and also added the factory relay block next to the underhood fuse block. I'd love to go that route and use these free programs to program my pcm. What other software would I need to use? PCM Hammer?

@@RoadCase If you download Universal Patcher it automatically comes with a version of PCM Hammer so no need to go to the PCM Hammer page and download it by itself. When you are in Universal Patcher you just go to the Utilities drop down and select what I remember is read/write it will open up PCM Hammer in another window.

I grounded my pin, was able to read my p59, wrote a full flash with a bin I found to match my os , wrote the full flash no problem, I can scan and clear the pcm but when I put it in the truck I have a dead key acting as if it's still bricked, can anyone point me in the direction of what I'm doing wrong

VATs may be your issue if you wrote a file that was not original to your truck. There will be a fault code logged for this if you look at active faults with a scan tool. If this is actually the case a passlock relearn must be completed or you can just disable VATs within the bin file before writing the file to the PCM. Here is a link on how to perform the relearn. Great video well explained but I have done all of this, and I still don't get a fan request from the PCM. Would you have any ideas on what else I could look at? I have tried this on 2 PCMs a 2001 Tahoe and a 2002 Cadillac with no fan request. Thanks

Are you having an issue with fans coming on for air conditioning? Or are you just taking about when the engine reaches the temperature set point?

I probably didn’t mention it in the video because that was a 2004 I was working on with but on the 99-02 you need to find the Auto_Recirculation_Option table and uncheck the box for it. Factory settings use pin 33 to control the recirculate door. Unchecking it changes settings over to fan control from that pin. That would be high speed fan though not low speed. You would then have to replace the a/c high pressure 2 wire switch with a 3 wire high pressure sensor and wire it to the pcm pin 45 in connector 1 and the pins 14 and 80 in connector 2 to get the fans working fully functional with the A/C.

I noticed in some of your saved tune files there are notes about "lean cruise". I'm using HP Tuners (currently trying to un-brick my P59 after trying my very first flash that failed), and I know HPT doesn't let you mess with the settings to enable it... I'm hoping you can point me in the right direction for enabling this feature, as it's one of the main reasons I'm beginning to learn tuning. PCM Hammer plus another tuning program? Any insight would be greatly appreciated (and a video would be even better!)

Here is the link to the lean cruise patch. It only works with the 7603 operating system so if your pcm is running another you would have to swap over. Once you open the bin file and the patch xdf you apply the patch the save the bin. You will then have to do an entire write with the new bin file. Yes universal patcher will allow you to make some changes like disable vats and DOD and some timing stuff. Not as much as HP tuners. I don’t believe PCM Hammer or LD Droid will read E38 or E67 ecms yet but PowerPCM Flasher is supposed to be able to. I haven’t don’t anything with Gen 4 yet. I've been learning to use universal patcher. Looking to remove my speed limiter but even after getting rid of the 98mph limiter I seem to max out around 102mph at 4000 rpm on top gear wot. Seems like the truck is pulling throttle

Nice. I got a question tho, I believe minds is block, cause when I had pc hammer reads mind it sad unlock was not successful don’t know why so does this mean it’s brick. I see u had files save I didnt get a chance to save files option wasn’t available for me ,Is these files something u have save and would it work for me to if I did the same process. I basically save a base file before I make any changes. Then I save a file every time I make a change. Usually rewriting the previous file works but I have had to rewrite the original file first to get it unlocked then rewrite the previous file. If it’s a stock untouched pcm and you haven’t even been able to get the file read and saved it may be an issue with your OBD tool or a power supply issue. From what I remember you must be a certain point just over 12 volts.

Yes thank you. It was done in March of last year and that is allergy season around this area. It gets so bad sometimes you can see a yellow dusting on vehicles from all the pollen.

There are way other ways to view. If you choose the a/b or a[b] at the top of each table it will show them side by side. There is a way to just select those tables needed and add them to a patch file then it’s one click and it will copy all of them over to yours.

open 2 windows and minimize to show both windows on your screen...Then you can transfer values to tables instead of taking a picture. Hope that helps..

If you have a P01 or P59 pcm from a 4.3 it’s as easy as writing a V8 bin file to the pcm.

I’ve never done it honestly but I have looked over a truck bin file and it looked like all the tables were already set up for the idle air control and such so I don’t see why just changing a bin from dbw to dbc wouldn’t work. Worst case is it won’t work and you then just find a van bin file and use it instead.

What do you recommend for Fan adjustment for South Florida "Miami" temperature zone.. Mostly Hot and lots of Traffic.. 2000 C5 Corvette, I pulled info stored from the PCM ECT_Fan1_High_Threshold 108.0078, ECT_Fan1_Low_Threshold 103.9844 ----- ECT_Fan2_High_Threshold 113.0078, ECT_Fan2_Low_Threshold 108.5156...? Those seem to be the stock settings across the board for all LS engines. Honestly my stock truck came factory with a fan clutch and after installing electric fans I went back and just dropped the fan settings down several degrees. Fan 1 I set the low to 210f and high to 215f. I set the Fan 2 low to 215 and the high to 220. I just type F to C in the google search and a conversion calculator pulls up at the top of search list. Just enter what temp you want in F and it tells you the temperature in C. Just play with the temp settings if need be. If you find your fans stay on excessively you can always raise the temps back up some.

I appreciate the in depth videos you put out. I'm new at tuning and am stuck dont know what to do.I dont know if this is the right spot to ask questions but I'm having trouble logging data! I Can set the pids up and start logging but I don't know if its actually recording! I set up the tables in the log like you show but when I go into show histogram then settings I try pulling up the tables on the drop down menu and its blank. I also see you are able to show histograms on the log view and I dont have that option. Also on the histogram screen and setting you have a template that I dont see on mine either! Any help would be much appreciated! Thank you and happy new year!

There is no tune repository like hptuners would have for startup tunes. You can watch try and find some KZbin videos of guys tuning for a new cam install to get it started on hptuners then apply it to universal patcher or tuner pro. Most everything that can be done with hptuners can be done with these programs as well. It’s just more time consuming.

while the obdlink sx works, it is sooooooo slow.... and its $50. if you spend $100 and get a VCX Nano, you can read and write in 4x mode. write entire takes me a minute and 45 seconds.

So I’be been able to somewhat log but my issue is that it keeps disconnecting. I tried a lower baud rate and that seemed to help a little. I’ll try going down to 9600 and see if that helps.

You can look under the Veh_Speed category. Look for vehicle_speed_limit for electronic throttle but I don’t believe this is used with cable throttle and vehicle_overspeed for fuel cutout.

With vats it should be as simple as changing to none and doing a full os and calibration write.
