How come 21 isn’t running at Edaville right now
@trainern86 ай бұрын
It needs a 15 yr / 1472 day inspection before it can run again. It was moved up to Maine Locomotive and Machine Works a few years back for the work to eventually be done. I think they do plan on completing the inspection and running it, but I'm not completely sure.

It sure is elusive! I rode behind it a few times as a kid before they had 958, but that was before I was taking videos. I also rode behind 958 its first year there when it was green, but I didn't get any video of that either.

@@trainern8 Neat. Back then, it has a very fouled Leslie S5T horn. Now it has a new cast P5. There's very little to no public videos around of those horns that I readily know of.

what air compressor setup do you use (size/psi etc), please? Do you use an extra air storage tank do get the sustained sound?
@trainern8 Жыл бұрын
I use a 60 gallon air compressor, no extra air tank. It works well for 5" whistles like this. I'll blow a 6" whistle well enough, but it drains the whole tank very quickly with those. Pressure wise, about 175 psi.

@@trainern8 Sorry, one more question; do you happen to know what cfm that air compressor is producing?
@trainern8 Жыл бұрын
@@kmanningable hmm I'm not sure. I usually let it fill up all the way, then turn it off and then blow the whistle so it doesn't kick on and mess up the sound of I'm recording, so I haven't paid too much attention to CFM. The whistle moves so much air, it will be difficult for any compressor of that size to totally keep up.

In 1963, three of us sneaked onto that bridge and rode it to the top. At the time, the bridge was down more than it was up. Hid in the girders under the tracks so the controllers couldn't see us. It was a surprisingly bumpy ride. Once back down, had to stay hidden until the train passed. Afterwards, we just acted like some kids crossing. Looking back, it was a foolhardy thing to do. That bridge wasn't built for pedestrians.

We had one of these NYC 3 chimes down at my buddy’s farm on one of his steam tractors… I did some research to find these were also found on steam locomotives as well as electric ones. The one we used sounded amazing on steam and we only had it at like 75-80 psi.

Thanks, I watched that video and it sounded great! I was actually surprised by how nice it sounded, made me even happier to have one. I had no idea when I bought it that it could have been used on an electric locomotive, found that out later. Pretty cool!

In my opinion I think that the peanut chime or 3 chime fit 7470 the best as they’re high pitched. As much as I like the 6 chime I just don’t think it suits her.
