Its the ohms brother. You need an amp if you are going to replace your factory speakers which are usually low ohms with something after market.

I have had two nvx 12s since like 2011 maybe 12 but they were the cheapest dual 4 12s at the shop I stopped at on a road trip after blowing a sub. They were supposed to be just for a week or so. I still use them daily. I run them with a Memphis 1500.1 from 2001. I can't say enough good things about those subs.
