Replaced 9 years ago and hoping to enjoy it for at the very least 20 years. I get our roofer checking every few years or so to make sure it remains good.

Roofing for 44 years. Forgot more than you will ever know. Asphalt will stick to silicone. Done it several times.

No it will not, silicone sticks to asphalt not the other way. If we do this in Norway we lose oure license and everything.

It only sticks until it cures, once it is hard, it peels right off. You are doing poor work if this is what you are doing. I have been roofing for close to 40 years and I just showed you what asphalt does over silicone. I see this all the time, guys like you keep me in business. Keep up the good work!

No, silicone sticks to asphalt. Asphalt will NOT stick to silicone. If you don’t know that, you aren’t a roofer or ever dealt with these type of work.

nothing sticks to silicone. and you have a 50 50 shot of silicone primer even holding up long term like this when doing a silicone patch on top. this is why we avoid silicone all together. too difficult to work with. if not done 100% correctly from the beginning, you are screwed. it's much easier to either go with commercial white TPO. or torch down modified bitumen, then roll an emulsion coating on top of that, and then rubberized silver coat on top of that. and then you will only have to coat it every 7-8 yrs after that and will never have to worry about seams separating

I have a roof in CT that looks flat to the eye and is a black 10 ft seams wide material covered with a layer of pea sized rocks. It is completely drained after a rain in about 2 hours, and completely dry after 4-6 hours. What peel and stick product will work on this? Most contractors that have looked at the roof have no clue. I want to strip it down, replace any bad plywood than use a peel and stick application only, (no fumes allowed). Any advice from anyone is much appreciated. Thanks

sounds like its a rubber roof, what exactly do you want to replace it with? a torch on roof? most roofing systems will have some fumes,but they are minor depending on system and will not last. if its office staff who complian just tell themto suck it up until its done.

Do you need to remove old, chippibg silicone sealant before applying new coat? Also how thick should the silicone layer be?

The finished thickness should be a minimum of .22 mills. But some coatings can be applied with a thicker coat. Yes the existing roof should be properly prepped and repaired before installing silicone.

I can hear the frustration in your voice driven by how our culture, and by the sounds of it, even your own family view working in the trades. People have been indocrinated to believe that degrees and pretentious sounding job titles are the path to a good life. Many office workers contribute nothing of value to society and just do paper work, while looking down on people who work with their hands, and it's a damn shame. I'm glad that you are proud of what you do and that's what matters, and hopefully you can instill the deeper philosophical meaning of this to your children.

It depends on how large the job is. Small job I'd say in the range of 3 thousand

It depends on how much prep and repair work is necessary, also what type of surface it is covering. Silicone roof coating costs about $2-$3/ft to buy the product, application usually costs about $.50-$1/ft. So roughly $2.50-$4/ft cost before any profit, overhead, or prep work. Total cost for the system from a reputable company should start at $5-$6/sqft and go up from there.

First, no product is ever gonna work if that roof isn't fixed. Too many water puddles. I don't mean to tell anyone how to do their jobs, but I live in Puerto Rico. All houses here have a concrete roof so I have been dealing with this my whole life, plus yearly hurricanes, scorching heat, and lots of rain. People here, including me, have tried every single product invented ever! The best product is Silicone, however, it is from $289 to $500 per bucket. The next best product is way cheaper and it's extremely good is Urethane. That being said Lancos Urethanizer is $150 and it's amazing. Acrylic is trash, you can throw that away. Anything with Urethane works amazing. There is Lancos Urethanizer, Cano's Nurethane and there are other affordable Urethane products. I've had to become an expert so as everyone here because of how frequently we deal with roof issues so just giving you my 2 cents.

Sounds like you know. Acrylic does not work on flat roof surfaces. We only use it as a base coat under silicone.

@AastroRoofing I've had to become "DYI experts" on this island because of so much rain, hurricanes, and overall bad weather. As a matter of fact, I am trying to pressure wash my roof this week so that I can give it a nice urethane coat. We do that every 2 years just to keep a strong coat because our roofs are concrete, and if water leaks, the steel rods will corrode, and it's a mess.

@AastroRoofing Bro if you ever get a chance, try Urethanizer from Lanco... You will thank me later. It's self leveling and provides the strongest most durable coat I have ever seen. Btw I don't work for them 😂 Just my 2 cents on this. I'm not an expert.

ANY roof will fail if the preparation is not done correctly. I have installed many acrylic roof coatings and they stand up exceedingly well. I have seen touch down roofs fail after only a few years because the technique was poor.

Are you using the Lanco ultra siliconizer as your silicone top coat? I keep wondering why they call it that when it's still water/acrylic based, the real silicone products are about 3x the price.

Siliconizer is not silicone. Anything that is waterbased should not be used on a flat roof surface, only sloped roof areas.

@0:55 toilet cleaner here for a contracting company. I clean commercial cleaning, 5 clients, 6 days a week, 8+ hour days. Nothing but compliments, business calling my job and saying im amazing, etc. I asked for a raise and they offered to cut my hours since it's a lot of work. I said, the hours are fine, but deserve more pay (i get paid 13/hr, doing 2 peoples jobs, other person would get paid 11, is an extra dollar that hard to give me?) and they keep giving me the run around, so no, can't make it as a toilet cleaner unless you start your own business, which is damn near impossible cos even in my small town there's LITERALLY over 20 cleaning companies.

You live in Florida? murders legal down there. if someone gets push it legal to take out a gun and shoot for something as simple as being pushed. This country we kill our unborn children and we like Laws to allow us to kill our neighbor. I gotta do my son roof it’s mostly shingle but has a couple of square a flat roofing I will used the peel and stick because you say it’s good and you’re a professional flat roofer. I was going to use a touch down But if all I have to do is un peel it and stick it I’ll do that instead thanks for your video

We interviewed 5 roofers and apparently we still chose the wrong one. We found ponding on our newly re-framed and torched down roof the morning after it was done. I believe it is a problem and don't know if I'm just being over concerned. Should any water be sitting on my roof the day after it is installed?
