GW needs more thinning but has better coverage, although it dries fast so a nightmare in airbrush or wet blending. Vallejo needs less thinning but is in consistent in the level of coverage, and is great in airbrush. I just use AK cuz it has good coverage, consistency, and dry time. I’ve used pro acryl and reaper too and they’re awesome

I have to mention this seeing the finsh but a great rule of thumb when thinning ur paint is to test it on ur hand or nail. This lets u really dial in the paint before it touches the mini. If u dont like getting paint on ur hands just slap on a disposible glove. Lyla Mev has a fantasic video for anyone struggling with thinning their paints as being able to see it will always be better then a text based answer

Those old minis were from the Rogue Trader era when GW was just throwing stuff at the wall to see what sticks. If the fans got excited and cleared out the stocks then the minis stuck and usually got expanded on. Happy fans = more profitable business. The current change is ideologically driven, not fan driven. The profit comes from a third party that can expand the IP. These ideological changes will politicise the game-space - everything that people do in their hobby time will have to be done through the lens of identity politics - the Eye of Sauron will be watching.
