It's the 2 hours low level flying then standing up for ages, when you have equipment that kills you. By the time the Door is open your raring to just jump out that door.

Wow these guys have it nice! I was Airborne back in the 80's T-10's, C-130, C-141. We were packed in like sardines, and hit the ground like we had jumped off a 12 foot wall plus wind speed thrown in...compare the ride in a Yugo...to an Escalade...lmao And to also remember what the guys did in WWII compared to how we had it...got to love the advances...one draw back for these guys...TOO much hang time...they land like butterflies compared to what we had to do...which translates to...the bad guys have a lot more time to put bullets in you before you land.

shockhawk what happens when you drop your static line?
@eriksanchez72866 жыл бұрын
TheGuy you get in a lot of trouble because the safety has to waste time catching it and making sure it goes with the rest. Trust they emphasize it a lot at the airborne school. Drop it once and you get kicked
@dwDragon886 жыл бұрын
The biggest concern is that the static line can wrap around the next jumper. Most common static line injury is a line wrapped around the arm which usually rips the bicep muscle off and pulls it down the arm. Very nasty injury that is caused by improper static line control.

Why @4.00 is calling "minimum" while climbing?
@ericgunnison5908 жыл бұрын
I'm not a pilot but I've watched plenty of the show air crash investigation. Sometimes they get warning even when there's nothing wrong. I assume it's minimum altitude warning. In some of the shows I've watched the crew silenced warnings that contributed to a crash later on.
@haydenspotatoguns8 жыл бұрын
+OldTownLad It's for when you are landing. If you don't see the runway at that point you abort the landing. ie really bad fog.
@wbarn0038 жыл бұрын
+michael foster Huh? What in the world does landing have to do with this aircraft shortly after taking off??
@matthewcooper10158 жыл бұрын
+Wayne B They call minimum at that point because if any emergency that is the minimum height at which the parachutist can exit and expect his parachute to deploy!
@wbarn0038 жыл бұрын
Matthew Cooper That makes since. In my 6 1/2yrs on jump status, I've been up front with the flight crew a few times, but only on a C130.

Correction, it's 20 feet on the C-17, there was an issue with contact with the jumpers. The standard static line was in fact 15 feet......wink

Sicily drop zone is 3 miles long. Roughly 57 seconds of green light. If you don't get em all out race track around on a second pass. Generaly they don't use the first 1,000 yards and near the long street end they stop short. So it's about two miles at 150-160 miles an hour is one minute.

i know i'm going to sound dumb, but what happens to that yellow rope they jumped out with? the one that was attached to their chute?
@JasonHoughton9 жыл бұрын
That yellow "rope" is what pulls the soldiers chute after they have jumped out of the plane. As you can see, they pull it back on board the plane and it will be reused for the same purpose.
@Paxiangaming9 жыл бұрын
Jason Houghton oh! ok thanks. i always thought they pulled the chute on their own. so after it pulls the cord it disconnects from the chute right?
@JasonHoughton9 жыл бұрын
***** Yup, that's correct.
@JasonHoughton9 жыл бұрын
The reason behind it pulling the chute, is if the soldier gets knocked out exiting the plane, the chute is deployed no matter what.
@ericgunnison5908 жыл бұрын
+Jason Houghton Actually it's because they jump at low altitude, 800 feet. Its to ensure rapid opening.
