Imagine finally being able to go camping at Yosemite. Planned for a year, bought the gear, drove hundreds of miles, planned what you and your family would do and then someone jumps off and dies nears your tent. It would ruin your entire trip. Selfish people who only think about themselves!

Matt coaches my friend Stephen, the runner in the video. Matt started coaching him in early 2024 and transformed Stephen as a runner. Sub 3 at Boston and sub 24 at Western States. Matt came out to Western to help crew Stephen’s race.

I'm simply not into splat. As a retired fireman I've had my fill of accidents. Some say this was an accident. But to me it appears to be on purpose. Kind of like intentionally ramming your car into a brick wall knowing the force is on your side and you have seat belts and airbags. What could go wrong?

He ruined everyone’s trip to Yosemite that day. They will only remember feeling sick rather than being amazed by nature’s beauty at Yosemite. Selfishness is gross.

l think this type of thrill seeking is egomaniacal and narcissistic at the same time. Do the survivors have to clean up the gore or the National Park Service? You want an adrenaline rush, ride a roller coaster. You want to be courageous, help out the neighbor you've never talked to who's in trouble. l don't see women taking these death defying risks.

It’s a free country , though I do feel bad for whoever has to clean up afterwards.

Coyotes and buzzards perhaps?

@@georgeedward1226 No, that's not how it works. I actually worked in Yosemite on fires and were instructed on how everything must be returned to it's natural state. If you turned a rock over you had to turn it back to its original configuration facing north.

Ive come so close so many times, to ending it in a split second of ill timing...............and crawled away instead of dying. It seems to run in my family, shoulda died but took a good bounce and lived. The angle of the dangle is a real thing. Raced flattrack flat out for 10 years, beat up badly but lived. Numerous other insane close calls. Never wanted to jump off half dome.

I guess your life is decided by an updraft (live) or downdraft (die). why wouldn’t someone do a smoke test first to see if today is your day?

Should be illegal to do this in our national parks. It's not your personal amusement park. Respect Nature.

Exactly what part of nature is destroyed or interrupted by this act?
@russelloswald6885 Жыл бұрын
I disagree. These parks have been established to help maintain their natural state. Activities like this that are non-obstructive will keep people coming to areas which will need $ for oversight and maintenance. Shutting off access to all but a limited group is narrowly single minded at best.

Mentally disturbed men of all kinds are born daily: Suicidal idiots, unhappy with being alive. Murderers and sexual deviants beyond enumeration. There is no quality control over what comes into the world. Women come with their own special problems, and loose their lives as they reach their fornicable age. They are human products gone wrong at the production line. There is no natural selection. Bloke from Aus.

Reminds me of our rather snowy August ascent in 1981. On the way down, we glissaded an incredible 30 solid minutes, slow but nonstop! We dropped 4,000' in that one glissade. It was the single most glorious glissade I ever did, and this video captures it perfectly. Just increase it to 30 minutes!!! My second favorite glissade, which I have done many times, is from the false summit to the lunch counter on Mt Adams. That is 2,500' and 10 minutes of bliss every time :).

I enjoyed this glissade myself, but I sure wouldn't do it without my ice axe in my hand for self arrest. So many people die after they loose hold of their ice axe (especially when it's attached to their backpack)
