Your bird friend is a south island robin. We had huge storms a couple of years back that washed out a lot of the tracks around browning hut.

Shame Twighlight was closed. It’s a lovely gentle start to the trail. When it’s all mended, go back and walk from the Cape to Te Paki stream. The road walking on the NI was relentless. I can see why some hitch the road sections.
