There was literally nothing to dislike. If you compare it to F1 today, they are slower, top speed a mean, they make a dreadful sound, are uglier (also than today’s F1 cars) and the amount of competitors is embarrassing if you compare the 10 F1 teams against 40 ore 50 plus cars in that era😢

The sort of content that makes you want a time machine. A fantastic era for motorsport. Not just this but F1, WSBK, Rallying and V8 Supercars.

Those Porsche factory Team drivers, of them all I think only John Watson and poor Bob Wollek did not win Le Mans {perhaps Drake Olson?} Vern Schuppan, Derek bell, Hans Stuck, Jochen Mass, Jackie Ickx,Al Holbert , Hurley Heywood

Driving in heavy rain is hella dangerous and exhausting. I did yesterday 258kph on the Autobahn here in Bavaria on dry ground at 24°. With a proper suspension set up no issues at all. Car was steady even on little bumps on the A6 Highway. But in rain I would never drive like this.

I feel for Justin Bell. I don't know all that much about his racing career or his ability or reputation, but he did all he could. Well done Justin Bell. But a bit like Benoit Treluyer in the R18 at the 2011 race JJ Lehto was on fire, setting unbelievable times, reported as 30 seconds faster than anyone else in the Mclaren in the wet at night. How do you cope with that. Wonderful stuff. I keep coming back to this race.

Man what I would give to have been able to have watched Le Mans from like 63 64! I'm 31 so I didn't start getting into racing until early 2003 mabey 2004 ish I remember not long after I got serious about what hung when they came to mosport every year. Seeing as how in two hours from mosport that's when they Falken tire Porsche 911 was on its game. Audi has their prototype diesel and the Rolex sport car series was different. I loved when it when it separated but the racing now it's amazing but hey who knows what could have happened had they stayed apart and who know they would have developed and would give alot more seats for drivers to do what they love

That's a good question, we can't really know because j.j Lehto was way faster than anybody else during the night. (Between 20-30 seconds a lap faster).

Considering that there is 24 hours left, and crashes, spins or breakdowns are not rare, the commentator starts out at 160 mph... ooh he's gonna be sleeping well tonight

Great upload but have to correct you that the TWR designed Jags sponsored by Silk Cut had debuted at LM in 1986, were very quick but all retired, '87 they got one car to the finish (in 5th) but in '88 they finally won after an incredible race, 2nd place Porsche still on the same lap! Been going to LM since '82, right from the beginning of Group C, without a doubt THE golden era for the race, not just the racing itself, the atmosphere and layout of the circuit was completely different. Just as one example, those incredibly crowded pits date back to 1955 when the cars were much smaller (and slower!), there's no garage behind them so any repairs on the cars had to be carried out right there in the pitlane, unprotected from the weather and other cars, no pitlane speed limit then so the top drivers just booted it after their stop and expected others to get out of the way....happy days!

Great driver, Hans Stuck. Always blisteringly fast but not particularly a car breaker. One of the best endurance drivers ever but hardly anyone talks about him.
@paulreilly39042 жыл бұрын
You may be right about less talking about Stucky, but bear in mind that this is an English language review and I think he's much better known in Germany and German speaking countries. And he has a great sense of humour, which makes any interview with him such great fun. But, yes he's a fantastic driver and had great success in the USA in IMSA events with the 80? 100? Audi.
