My broody quail hatched 6 quail chicks and she’s also raising quail chicks hatched from incubator.

Mom thought feet was worms?
@FanmasHomestead25 күн бұрын
Maybe. Mom also pulls the feet to keep the baby quail under her wings to keep them warm.

Quails eat bugs, why would you give them scrambled eggs
@FanmasHomestead29 күн бұрын
I only give them scrambled eggs once in a while when I have extra eggs.
@Melissa-xz6eqАй бұрын
What I found helps to keep my quails cooler during the hot days is giving them frozen water bottles and jugs of frozen water. I get frozen bottles out of the freezer and put it in with the quail and the quail will lay right next to the frozen bottles and it keeps them cool, I just refreeze the bottles when they melt.

3:05 why do you put feed away during the night? protecting it from getting wet from the dew?
@FanmasHomestead3 ай бұрын
It’s a habit I had since I had issue with mice once. Just to have a peace of mind that I won’t be feeding mice at night.

It might have been avian encephalomyelitis. Sorry to hear about your quail. I have 7 quail of my own. I enjoy your vids a lot. Thanks for the videos.
I’m lucky to have a few broody quail. Quail are not easy to get broody. For the past two years I found it’s the same quail go broody (about 1% of my total hens). They’re all celadon quail and one of them is mix of celadon and jumbo wild. I would say genetics, environment play big part in the broody of quail. I no longer want any broody quail as I have mixed feelings about it. I’ll share my experience in future videos.

How is your bamboo doing? Does produce seeds? I am trying to buy one like this :-)
@FanmasHomestead8 ай бұрын
The bamboo is doing much better than my other type of bamboo. It’s cold hardy. We had a hardy winter last year. The original bamboo died. But the new bamboo is thriving. I just posted a quick video for the bamboo update. Please check it out.

I haven't had a hen brooded clutch yet. If you watch an incubated hatched clutch of chicks you'll see over and over again if one of them falls on their back, another will go after their feet. I believe they see them as being worms and fair game to eat. They will try to literally tear them off of the victim's body. I am amazed to see a mother will do it too to their own chicks. I have two broody hens I'm going to give their own space to try letting them hatch. We will see if they do the same. Also, thank you for the videos. I know first hand how hard it can be raising them and watching chicks die over and over again. It is nature. Tsai jian.

Wow your quail is friendly how did you make it so tame?
@FanmasHomestead10 ай бұрын
Other than genetics and environment, I give them different types of treats from dry meal worms to free cheats such as crushed egg shells. Most of the quail are not friendly. They don’t like to be petted. I like the way they are. Otherwise I might not be able to walk if they all come to me every time I walk in.

I had broody quail in spring, summers and winter. But I didn’t have any of my quail go broody during the hottest days in the summer. I currently have two broody hens. Summer is almost over here in the Northeast of the United States. Good luck to you.
