So many of you pilots are flying hang gliders in this video that outperform your capabilities as a pilot. Looks to me as a club of machos that want to show off with the specs of their glider but do not know how to properly fly them... What a showcase of amateurism and dangerous manoeuvres on the final legs of a flight this is....

@@1MarcVD yes agree with you that there are some bad landings. But, bad landings can happen even to the best. The spot landing in a kneeling position with Blue/silver Piuma was performed by the best hg pilot of all time😏

Wow, I flew for ten years in Southern California, 300 flyable days a year, you're probably lucky if you have 65 and stick with it. And yes, keep your airspeed up during your decent throught the wind gradient.

You can rent a glider, transport and accommodation at Casa Delta. Johnny is well-known locally and takes the pilots out to the start and collects them after landing. Or you can hire hang gliders and transport and stay in a hotel.

Can anybody tell me the function of the tubular “tail” these craft have? It doesn’t seem to be used for any rigging wires and it lacks either v or h stabilisers. TIA 😊
@jandahlberg625511 ай бұрын
Hello. the tubular tail has only one function and that is when you rig the wing up or down. If the tube is not there, the wing tips would lie down in the ground when the wing is on the ground.

Why do the pilots not have wheels?
@jandahlberg6255 Жыл бұрын
you don't get better landings with wheels. Personally, I don't want wheels because there is some crap at the start in a lot of wind. But, of course, you can save material with the use of wheels.

@@jandahlberg6255 You do get much better landings with wheels in many situations, when you are judging your landings on damage to glider or pilot. I always like having wheels for three reasons. First of course is safety and the chance that the wheels might save you or your glider from some injury or broke down tubes (or worse). Second, when sharing tight, crowded thermals, especially low at launch, having wheels may cause the pilots around you to think you are less experienced and they may give you more space, often allowing you to work the core of the thermal. Third ….. when you are topped out above all the other gliders, it is amusing, knowing that the gliders below you are muttering “who is that beginner with the wheels that is specked out above me” 🙃

In the late 70's, early 80's our winter flying in the Columbia River Gorge was at a place we named Pollution Point in WA. It's a 600' cliff that overlooked an active Aluminum plant. In an East wind (which blows in winter, but rare in summer) we could thermal in the heat coming up from that plant. In fact, you didn't even really need a vario. When you could smell the pollution, just start circling and up you'd go. It was a hoot to thermal while it was snowing and then having to do wingovers to stay out of the clouds. It's still a popular place to fly, but the aluminum plant has been closed for decades, so no more climbing to 2,000' + anymore. It's been renamed Cliffside. I'm 78 and still take an old low time UP Condor to the Oregon coast every couple of years and soar the dune at Cape Kiwanda for an hour, make sure I can still do it. Last year I gave a kid five bucks to carry my glider to the top of the dune for me.

thanks. Glad you enjoyed the movie. I use drag shut a lot, reduce landing time, distance and speed a lot. When the feet hit the ground, just push 🙂 nice exercise until you have to use it because the landing area is short.Greetings from Norway with wishes for many nice flights.

Great video, I have only 10 years of experience in Australia, so do not really care about the landings in this video, what I do have a question about is: Just about every pilot that took off, put their hands straight down on the base bar before they were actually flying, not sure about Europe, but in Oz, that's a really bad habit to get into, pro or not.... Just sayin!
@billpain Жыл бұрын
Aye, most of the take offs looked pretty limp.
@1MarcVD2 ай бұрын
In Europe too. But these guys are not that good pilots. Although the choice for their gliders would like you to believe something else.... Every rookie can buy a topless or other high performance glider and try to fly with it. It seems they were all lucky to land without having broken anything. But it certainly was not due to their level of competence...
