Manny Elias has to be one of the most amazing drummers that never got credit where credit was due. His use of the entire kit, his brilliant/unique timing, his use of the toms and creativity is overwhelmingly out of this world.

I have this Pinkpop version recorded as well. Their best performance. They were celebrating their platinum award for Throwing Copper and they got extra time on Pinkpop for that. Awesome gig.

There are already several lessons on the guitar. It is the simple melody lesson, not the solo he plays on this video

The arc of time the stench of sex. It’s about the life cycle, free will, fate, and consciousness. it starts basic, a wedding a baby born, but delves into consciousness and how even if we have free will it’s still about what comes next. Conor mentions Insects and nature because they don’t question what their purpose is - they do what they need to do for “the next one down the line.” The speaker longs for such a simple view of the world. “No politics no history”, and argues that there is such a thing as choice and free will. “There’s choices I can make. My heart needs a polygraph, I’m always so eager to pack my bags. When I wanna stay. When I wanna stay” Conor/narrator feels the weight of it all, what came before and what comes next. Pleading with the universe to understand his place.“The instinct of the blind insect, who never thinks not to accept its fate - that’s faith. There’s happiness in death.” This isn’t morbid as much as, if you’ve given to the “next one” then what more can you ask for? That’s the arc of time, from the beginning until it ends a never ending process of symmetry. Life to death to life again. I don’t read this song is an argument for or against free will, fate, or consciousness I think the narrator resigns to the fact that it again doesn’t matter and what does is the constant cycle of giving to the next one. He concludes by repeating again and again “you give to the next one down the line”

Wow, this must be a rare video - a concert just before the release of the huge album "Songs from the big chair" - in the transition from the Album "The Hurting" to the new stronger sound on "Songs from the big Chair". There are already a frew songs in the setlist like "The Working Hour" and the last single before the album - "Mothers Talk". I love this original lineup with the brilliant drummer Manny Elias who added so many brilliant beats to the songs up to this point, which was to be never again, and Ian Stanley on keyboard who brought such intensity to the songs with his spheric keyboard sounds they never had again later. By the way - the two are also amongst the songwriters of the best songs of this album - have a look on Wikipedia

Oh there he is again, Stefan Lessard with the easiest job in the musical world. Surrounded by incredibly talented musicians with a mediocre talent. I don't know if Dave banged his sister or something but he's been lifted and carried by this entire band and I can only assume it's out of some loyalty. Maybe he knows Dave killed someone or something? This guy should be roller skating hot dogs out to cars in a Sonic but here he is. I literally saw a video with Stefan talking about the intricacies of the bass guitar and it made me want to get into a bar fight just out of frustration that this guys has a platform. Shut your stupid mouth, Stefan, you have no talent and you're lucky you have whatever dirt you do on the other members of the band that makes them keep you around. I seriously don't get it and I can't make any sense of it. ...anyway, nice song.
