Love those Luscombs. I remember my dad buying a 1946 Luscumb in 1967 for $700, he couldn't come up with an extra $900 for a Piper Cub.

Great video! I always wish I could have flown my dad. Just one thing. You're flying a Cutlass not a Skyhawk. Embrace your inner swashbuckler! The Cutlass is my favorite single engine Cessna!

Awesome! Your 500S is top notch. Just two comments, if I may: Why did you perform a take off from the brakes? Runway was long enough to make a rolling, much better for the aircraft and powerplants. During the approach, why not select at first approach flaps, then reduce speed, and then L G down? Sounds a little bit weird, to select gear down and then approach flaps. Thanks in advance.

Back in 1958 I met a flight instructor who owned a polished aluminum Luscombe 8A in which I learned to fly. We both loved that little plane. He was old when I was 18 and I always kidded about his knowing Wilbur and Orville .

Back in the 1970s I had a 1941 8D with a fuel injected C75 . Same dash as in your 8C. However, I'm a bit surprised to see that yours has the rear side windows like an 8E. Mine didn't and it was a later model. So I'm trying to figure that one out. Maybe an option? Gorgeous 8C by the way and I believe the 8C is the rarest of them all. I still miss my old 8D and envy you.
@HugAviationАй бұрын
You’re correct about the rear windows not originally being on the 8C. Those rear side windows were added onto the aircraft.

Yes! Turning the fuel caps backward WILL drain the fuel. A member of our flying club destroyed our Luscombe that way. After re-fueling and one short flight, the engine quit on takeoff the next flight. On touchdown in a plowed field the plane flipped onto its back and was totaled. They are great airplanes!

Saw this beautiful commander at Purdue, Josh, can you comment on head and leg room compared with other aircraft you have flown? Thanks.
@beechcraftflyer14605 ай бұрын
The other aircraft I've flown are cirrus's and cessnas and I've noticed that the commander has substantially more room. I have a friend who is 6'5" and has to move the seat forward to reach the pedals and still has head room too. In the rear there is even more room for your legs.

@@beechcraftflyer1460 Thank you, for this valuable information! I am 6 foot four and I believe that a cramped cockpit compromises safety.

winglets have a purpose. One is reduce vortices, therefore reducing drag, there fore decrease fuel burn.
@HugAviation5 ай бұрын
They do :). What Josh meant to say here was that the performance increase is so minimal that it doesn’t justify the STC cost to have the winglets and its more aesthetics than anything else.
