John, haven't see this or you in a while since I moved away. I just stumbled on it and had to write and say as everyone else has that this is fantastic and you are one of the best. Hope this finds you well and still playing. All the best, Paul

I just recently got into thumb picking by learning doc watsons deep river blues, next up is gonna be sittin on top of the world or windy and warm... This song is going to come after though, beautiful arrangement. Also, that lick at the 1 minute mark is one of the smoothest moves on the guitar ive ever seen. Great performance!

John, i, just like you grew up on had ground. My family come from southeastern New Mexico, Hobbs, Carlsbad, El Paso and Borger Texas. We also made music to pass the time and because many family gathering were just for the joy of sharing that music. Some of the best memories of my life come from those times. I still play guitar and my children play music also, so we are making new memories for the future i am amazed that our last names are strikingly similar. My name is STANDIFER. I have kinfolks all over Texas, New Mexico and Oklahoma and bought we must be kin somewhere along the way. I enjoyed your video and wish I could play half as well as you do. Thanks for sharing.

Just to let y’all know who may not know, John is among many other things, a National Fingerstyle Guitar Champion (Winfield Winner). To win is no small feat, his playing shows the kind of musicianship that rises to the top!

Outstanding as always, John. I brought a cassette tape of Chet's version of Cascade to a guitar lesson, and you not only learned the tune in that hour, you taught me to play it as well. Yowzer. I'll never forget that day, 45 years ago in the Camas church. Thanks again for all you do.

hi, i have a query. in the early noughties i studied in amsterdam and in the comp clusters i began lisnin to folkalley which back then had a track from '13 ways to live' as a staple piece. Over the years i tried a few times to track down the pedalsteel player for/on 'Cycles' ... He may have been a colleague of yours at Screen Door Music. Am i rite?

I have enjoyed your playing for years. I was wondering, you have your thumb pick fairly high on your right thumb. Does this enable you to use your bare thumb to play notes and also allow you to use the pick when playing "thumb style"?

Thanks John for the video. I first heard your music on a record in the 70s in my late teens, early 20s in Vancouver, WA. My wife's uncle had Django records, Jimmy Rodgers, and Chet Atkins and taught me a lot about fingerstyle guitar playing. Thanks for the beautiful music and playing style. I love your videos too!
