I’ve repeated it over the years, frequently around my family, and my dad picked it up from me, never having actually watched J&A. I’ve been on a J&A bender lately, and when I watched this video again tonight, it instantly brought back a memory. Several years ago, my dad fell backwards off his combine and fractured his spine. In the ER, they had him stretched out on a gurney, and he had just come back from a CT scan. I stood at his feet, and the trauma nurse stood at his head and couldn’t see his face from where she was. Dad was in really good spirits. The nurse asked if he was having any extremity pain, and Dad, sensing an opportunity to make me laugh, made eye contact with me and shouted, “My leg! My leg!“ I have to be honest when I say that the startled, get-ready-to-call-for-backup look on her face, which melted immediately into near rage when Dad and I both burst out laughing, was the highlight of the night.
