Coming back to this video again after just losing a battle on BAT for a LT4 car. Guess it wasn't meant to be Have you driven a C6? I'm debating on skipping the LT4 C4 this year, and picking up a clean LS2 C6 next winter for a bit more. Thoughts?
@mattquerio
@mattquerio Күн бұрын
I have driven a C6. It was a LS3 auto. I had it for a few weeks while a friend was out of town. They are objectively a better car in all measurable ways. The only thing it lacked for me was 3 pedals mechanically. The only other downfall was the fact that I found it to be so... numb emotionally. Which sounds silly. But I think it's just because I'm not nostalgic for 2005-2013 really in any way compared to the 1990s. But as a car, being usable, and the driving dynamic, it was a fantastic car. If you're looking for the better car, C6, if you're looking to listen to oasis and travel back to the 1990s... C4 all the way.

@2wheelcobra 12 сағат бұрын
@mattquerio That seems to be the sentiment from all the forum posts I've read about those who own/have owned both. I think I'm all-in on the C4, for many reasons. Truthfully, I would love to go full-on retro, with a 1989. However, having been in some already, it seems like the interiors absolutely fall apart unless they're mint examples. And mint examples, will be in LT4 territory....at that point, it's hard to deny just going for a 1996 LT4 car.

Only 54.5 horse power? My 1967 MG Midget in the UK had 65bhp. Were they detuned for America? I do not think the Midget was sold with a five speed gearbox or three wipers, and think that this car has been heavily modified. My standard Mk3 Midget was good for over 80mph with the engine revving at about 5,000. Claims that they were good for 100mph are exaggerated unless the A series engine was tuned to well above its standard horsepower, and the gearing raised.
@mattquerio
@mattquerio Күн бұрын
By 1972, horsepower ratings were lower. Early cars here did have 65hp as well. I noted in the video that the 5 speed has been added, it's a datsun unit. The 3 wipers is on all of them as well to my knowledge. The only modification to this car though is the datsun 5 speed, and the steering wheel :)

I don't know much about C4s, but if I were a betting man, knowing what I do about Corvettes, GM/Chevrolet put that "Grand Sport" Moniker on the engine not for marketing purposes, but instead because it would cost them a few extra pennies to make TWO different plenum badges (I know! THE HORROR!). Consider the evil that exists within the passenger-side ventilated disk brake rotor!!! It makes the issue of not having a unique plenum badge seem like mere CHILD'S PLAY in comparison. And it is. I think Mopar people generally act like members of a cult of some kind. Their adherents MUST worship Dodge, or they will be excommunicated. They HAVE to have that rigid thought discipline or some day it'll dawn Dodge owners that they're driving really big and heavy Fiats. This cult-like behavior isn't as bad VW owners' manifest psychosis, but it's still a lot worse than Chevrolet or Ford. BTW: I happened to notice your Reverse gear is in the wrong place in the shift pattern. It's down and to the right. Everybody knows it's supposed to be up and to the right. Maybe you have a defective car from the factory, or perhaps an aftermarket transmission. Potential buyers probably won't notice the difference. They'll just be stunned and confused by the extra foot pedal and need to fiddle with that stick in the center of the car's cabin over and over again.

I want this to be my next car. I don't have much money to have a second car, so this would be my only daily driver. I don't mind the 91 octane, my Impala only takes 91. I don't mind the mileage either, as my Impala does 21 mpg on city and a tank will last me about 5 weeks with how much I drive. My only worry is finding the right one. A C4 that has been maintained well and it's not going to bankrupt me. I can do maintenance and work on the car myself, but nothing that would be catastrophic and leave me without a car. I usually put anywhere between 1200 to 2000 miles per year on my cars. So I don't really drive that much.

The C5 platform is more rigid, but there's enough aftermarket to make a 2nd gen sbc fly. Look up Lloyd Elliott. There's enough aftermarket to do anything most street guys do. 13k is a mid C5, but a mint C4.

I have since sold it and am now looking into C4’s for the same reasons you are praising them. Speed is less important to me but I need to go 6 speed regardless if it’s an L98, LT1, or LT4. @mattquerio
@mattquerio 10 күн бұрын
124 would be a 11.20 with a 1.7 60ft or so, I ran a 11.89 with a light 2.1 60ft. I did not spin, but I launched easy. I'm running a 200tw summer tire, 335/30R18s in the rear. I was more concerned with mph than ET as I was simply looking to estimate hp. I don't doubt with a hard launch it would do 11.60 on the current tires on a perfect launch though. A drag radial would change everything!

600 flywheel would be great, that would figure to about 510whp. And really that's right where I'd like to be. This company claimed this to be a 650hp build, and *maybe* someone put stock injectors in this car between 2011 and now in previous ownership. I really have no idea what it will make. I truly think 500whp is possible between the cam, exhaust, and whatever head work it has with proper fueling and tune. That should put me at a solid 130mph 1/4.

Hey Matt. I think it's fine that it's on it's third engine. You said it. It's a driver's car and meant to be driven, not crowned in the garage as the garage queen. Faster than the last C4 you sold recently, I'm sure. But I can't help but wonder if the C4 handled better or worse than the Viper. What am I up to today? Probably about to go outside, wash the C5, clean the chrome wheels fairly good and go for a ride. My example of a Vette is my DD and have put over 30k miles on it over three years. Not a garage queen, not even close. To be driven and enjoyed. Enjoy the Viper!

Glad you've got cruising weather today! I had to get out before the rain hit, which was about noon. Slated to keep that up till dark. Boy you nailed it though, 3rd engine is no harm no foul for me. I've put over 500 miles on this car in the last 3 weeks. It shall be driven! It's quicker than the LT4 I just sold, for sure, but handling is a more complicated topic. I can say the viper does indeed have more grip, but the limit seems so much harder to see... and it's a line I don't want to cross. I feel like it was easier and more comfortable taking the LT4 near the cornering limit. And the vette was surely more comfortable in all regards! Thanks for watching and keep enjoying that C5!!
