Heard kayaking the Sipsey can be very challenging depending on water levels
@justhangingaround33592 жыл бұрын
Yes, we’ve heard the same thing. The water level was about perfect for our float. But we did still have several boats turn over.

Absolutely! My sister flipped in November one year and the current was so strong we couldn’t get to her for at least 30 minutes. Thank goodness we had a med kit with a warming/solar blanket. She was purple 😅😬

Would you say it has good bass fishing?

Yes! We went early in the spring, so they weren’t super active, but it would probably be very active in the summer.

Bet that was fun to haul the boats in and out of the water! This place is amazing! What spots do you recommend to put in/out of? Now following #21
@justhangingaround33592 жыл бұрын
Oh yes that was a long haul out with boats…but totally worth it for this float! We put in at the Sipsey River Picnic Area off Cranal Road. It’s $3 to park there. We took out on the left, past the 33 bridge. To park at the take out spot, going south on 33, turn left before you get to the bridge. Thanks for the follow! Hope y’all have fun if you end up doing the float!

How long of a float is that and was there any good camping spots on the banks?
@justhangingaround33592 жыл бұрын
We take our time when we float, so it was an all day affair. 8 hours from put in to take out. Paddling, it would probably take 5-6 hours. It's about a 10 mile stretch.

Thank you! Any good sand bars to camp?
@justhangingaround33592 жыл бұрын
We saw one group very early in the float packing up a camp site on a small bank, so there's at least one spot, but I recall there were limited sandbars at least on this stretch of the river. Sorry! I'm afraid we won't be much help with the camping bit - that's not something we usually look in to. Check out Southern Paddler. He does some camping, although I can't remember if he's done camping on this same float or not.

We put in at the Sipsey River Picnic area off Canal road. It’s $3 to park there. We took out past the 33 bridge, on the left. There are pink ribbons hanging in a nearby tree. There’s no markers or signs for the parking area at the take out spot. Going south on 33, turn left onto a gravel driveway before you get to the bridge on the road.

@@justhangingaround3359 about how long did it take?
@justhangingaround33593 жыл бұрын
It took us about 8 hours from put in to take out. However, we stopped and fished quite a bit, and also stopped for a while to help out some of our guys who flipped over. I bet if you paddled, it would be 5-6 hours.

We put in at the Sispey River Picnic Area off of Cranal Road (you can map it and there are signs). You have to pay $3 per car to park there. And then we took out right past the 33 bridge, to the left . There are pink ribbons hanging in a tree nearby. To park at the take out spot, going south on 33, you turn left right before the 33 bridge. There’s no signs or markers. Just a gravel driveway off the road. But it’s BEFORE the bridge on the road. We’ve only done it once but we’ve read online that it’s best to float November through May, due to the water levels getting too low during the summer months. We had lots of fun! There were a couple of tight spots during the float due to fallen trees, and the 100 yard dash (class 2 rapid) wasn’t as rough as we’ve seen it on other videos, I think because the water was already getting lower by early May. But it was still a blast!
