As far as I understood, here are the main differences (please correct me if I’m wrong) : 1) /e/OS relies on the Murena Ecosystem (based on OnlyOffice and Nextcloud) : the different applications present on the OS are forked from existing FOSS apps and were reworked to be synced with the Murena Workspace (if the option is checked). IodéOS is simply a « stock » Android without any Google Services and apps (so a basic fork of LineageOS). 2) /e/OS user interface is much closer to an iOS experience (iPhone/iPad). The theme is also more unified, apps do not feel out of place. IodéOS is visually very similar to « stock » Android, with apps and themes not always unified. 3) The « app stores » are different between the two OS. In IodéOS, two app stores are present : Aurora (FOSS equivalent to the Google Play Store, to install proprietary apps like Instagram, Spotify, …) and F-Droid (app store featuring FOSS projects only). The Murena team worked to unify these two into one single app called App Lounge, which also features security/privacy scores for each app. This is a premiere in the Android world. Formerly, IodéOS was considered to be more secure, privacy-wise. It proposed an still proposes an in-house made app that blocks the tracers and other data leaks. Nowadays, /e/OS also has this kind of app, present as a widget. I don’t know if they are both equivalent regarding their performances. From what I have read, IodéOS seems more robust. Also, people have a tendency to say that IodéOS is not (fully) open source, its privacy app being proprietary (but they lean to this direction, they just don’t want to be robbed from their idea). Their maps app is also not open source : Magic Earth. But this app is also present on /e/OS, which makes the latter also not fully open source. Still, the Murena team is working thowards a FOSS app to replace Magic Earth, to be fully FOSS (it is one of their main priority, check out the V2 launch video from their channel). Personnaly, I lean towards Murena /e/OS, for their huge work on the building of a whole new OS : the App Lounge, the privacy widget, their visuals (I just dont like the feel of Android, but that is my own opinion) and the optional cloud and Murena Ecosystem. IodéOS is still considered to be safer and more stable according to multiple forums, the updates and security patches being more frequent than in /e/OS. Still, in my opinion, it lacks some essential features to have a great user experience, which the Murena team tries to implement. Yet both projects are really cool, I’m probably gonna try them both !
