Perhaps if Tommy had succombed to get therapeutic help with his emotional as well with usage of illicit effects , as it were back then, Tommy could've been here for his family and fans not mentioning carving a musical border

Lita has some bluesy economy going on - not just shredding away. Tony is playing the JayDee Old Boy SG before the finish wore off.

The finish wore off on day one. This isn't Old Boy I think

@@221b-l3t hmm I thought I replied to this last week but I can't see it any more. In the Jaydee book John explains taking the guitar to America himself with Tony and the finish eventually bubbling off after making many trips across the atlantic from cold Blighty to warmer countries. So I don't reckon the finish wore off on day one. The Jaydee book is really interesting if you are into the Old Boy story.

@@jsnowdendavies Yeah I've since read more about it, it was within months though and I believe it was in the boot of a car in Australia. That would wreck any nitro finished guitar and by then it would have been decently cured. Thanks for recommending the book, I didn't know about that. Will check it out. How Black was our Sabbath is great too. I actually kind of have a John Birch/JD, the early 2000s Epiphone Tony Iommi SG. Made by Gibson regular sized clones if the mini humbuckers in Old Boy, 24 frets and cross inlays :) It was expensive for an Epiphone, 1500 adjusted for inflation... plays like a Gibson (a good one...). Unfortunately I have the one that's all black, when they brought out the newer version with chrome hardware and bound neck with crosses on all the marked frets not just 5-15... I kinda regretted not waiting. Those pickups are just awesome. Into a Marshall Ori20C, pushed by Rat, pushed by a TS808 clone, tone on high and yeah... I can almost hear Dio or Tony Martin start singing, when I let the riffs flow. I've been asking in the comments of every video TI puts on YT to please reissue them :) And the guitar, the SG has the neck pickup 2 frets worth lower down than a Les Paul so why not 24 frets? It's a better design and access is still great.

@ again, KZbin seems to have deleted my first reply :( Anyway, on the Jaydee Facebook page there have been some attempts to track Old Boy through the years. It was made in 1975 according to the Jaydee book and it appears to be present in photos of TI from that era alongside the JB SG with the steel scratchplate. This is based on the cross inlays, the JB style pickups, the clear scratchplate, the unused front-mounted output above the volume and tone controls and the (eventually) plugged hole on the scratchplate from the original John Birch-style wiring. It appears in photos from the early-80s where it is still black too which is why I'm confident this is the Old Boy in this clip and also the guitar used at Live Aid. Watch where he is playing the solo on the Live Aid clip and you can see the plug on the scratchplate where a pot had been which is also visible in this video. The bridge changes the most during this time period before they settled on the Schaller 456. Worth mentioning too that JD describes in the Jaydee book that he used acid catalyst lacquer mixed with black dye for the finish - this is not nitrocellulose. The finish may have eventually changed drastically relatively quickly, but for many years it would appear to have been stable?

@@elgherasta Yeah they are still rocking it but only Dave is left from the original lineup, all the rest have passed away. I last saw them it was in 2017 or 18 when they did the final show at the Avalon night club in Santa Clara on NYE, I first saw them in the summer of 1979 at the Alameda county fair when I was 14. The best (and saddest) was the benefit concert for Phil Kennemore New Years Eve 2010 at The Avalon, it was filled with rock stars from so many different bands taking part for different songs. Don Dokken opened it up with a half hour acoustical solo playing old Dokken songs followed by Y&T and friends taking the stage at 8pm and played well past 1am followed by an all you can eat breakfast buffet.
