Good to know I have been saying the same things as you for many years. For left hand fingering I say skip 1 - and place my index finger on the 2nd key and then say skip ( for the 3rd key) and place my2 nd finger down on the 4 th key. Same results both ways. Good video! 7:25

Another viewer/commenter has mentioned that many teachers tell their students to put the ligature on first and then slip the reed under the ligature in order to avoid snagging the reed and damaging it. I think that is appropriate if I was leaving my mouthpiece on the cork of the neck, and changing the reed. That being said, I find that putting the reed on the mouthpiece first works best for me. I can angle the reed and mouthpiece slightly downward, and scoop that under the strap of the Rovner ligature. This is way better for me than trying to eyeball at arms length the reed placement on a mouthpiece attached to the saxophone, as I have poor eyesight and arthritic hands. The downside to my method is that removing the mouthpiece and then putting it back on the saxophone might require me to retune my saxophone to Concert A or Bb. That is not a big deal, as it only takes a couple of toots at my tuner app on my cellphone to be back in tune; however, that might be impractical under certain performance circumstances. Also, having the mouthpiece off the saxophone when placing the reed allows one to perform a suction test to check that the reed is sealing properly. All this is very personal choices, but I wanted to point out that in some situations, and for some people, the ligature first gospel is not always appropriate.

Only one thing … Slide the lig on the MthPiece first. Then slide the reed down in place and adjust the ligature as needed. You’ll crack a reed doing it like she is demonstrating. Especially when it’s a great reed and you’re about to perform a solo or an important performance!! Teacher in college told me that. But one time in my haste - and CRUNCH! 😫 Backup reed was not the same. If it was a good red , then it would not be a backup

Thank you! You dont need to press BOTH keys for a low C. If you press the inner key, C, the outer key c# is also pressed by the first key.

youre naming the notes like you were playing the soprano.... but the fingering for F sharp on the alto gives you the B natural... the alto reforder is tuned in F... so you get the F major scale, not c major......... i know the fingering is the same, but the notes you get are different! be careful

universal advice to pull the head joint out a certain amount seems like terrible advice, you need to tune the actual quartet and not assume the sopranino is playing sharp.

Hi Beth! Thank you for sharing this video. I was playing along my Tenor Recorder with you in this song in G . Some of the notes were not easy for me to play clear, but sooner or later I will have the hang of it Well, I'd like to let you know that I have discovered with my brother David 36 pitches (3 registers) so far in the Tenor Recorder. I play them in the new D clef, however, the first register (as this song is played), I use the G clef. The new D cleft I invented myself exclusively for this instrument, I hope one day I have the chance to share with you. Greetings from Tijuana!
