These instructions are wrong. The seal near the rear light does not come close to sealing the tub, as noted below. And it would be silly to stick the seal to the light itself or you have to destroy the seal to take out the light!! Poor design. The hinge seal also does basically not very much…

The fitting instructions are poor, but if you can install it correctly this seal kit works fine. I had a look at where the pinch points were on the tailgate and installed the horizontal rubber with the lip facing outwards/backwards, this is just long enough to get from one corner to the other. Then I closed the tailgate to confirm that the seal was compressing all the way along. Then the fatter seals go on the inside (closer to the front), the video shows this bit of the install OK but use the fatter rubber and continue these above the striker all the way to the top of the tailgate in the crush zone. I closed the tailgate to check, then reopened and adjusted the section above the striker to get a better seal. Then I left it closed to stick under pressure for 24 hours. You can feel the seal compress when you close the tailgate, and using a torch i cannot see any light getting through anywhere. I reckon everyone having issues has installed the rubber seals incorrectly because the instructions are… inadequate.

Why isn’t there a dealer fit option for buyers intending to keep the tub and install a canopy. the dealer could offer the tailgate seal and gas strut, with or without the tub liner when you buy the new vehicle.

The struts work well, except I have a cable on one side that wants to poke out of the tailgate to tub gap and the other wraps in on the tailgate side of the strut. I have to move them by hand every time I close the tailgate…almost annoying enough for me to piss them off completely 😂

Doesn’t seal the side of the tailgate. Both inner and outer seal are completely useless… There’s huge gaps left open in bottom left and right corners. I can already tell a lot dust will get through. The instructions are terrible. Poor quality black and white printing showing a black ranger with black seals. Can’t see a thing. Why are the photos in reverse order? Also says “see back of page for a clearer image” but the reverse side is blank 😂😂 I’ll be removing mine to replace with a properly engineered seal from EGR. Waste of time installing this

Warning. This is NOT the easy install I was expecting. The torx bolts on the tailgate needed several rounds of heating (using a kitchen blow torch), impact driver and finally the T40 bit in a socket driver with continuous, applied force to get it loose. Most of the bolts are sealed with Loctite. A similar approach was needed with some of the phillips bolts as well. I nearly stripped two of the bolts and I broke three impact bits getting this job done. It took hours to do when I thought it would be just a few minutes.

The video looks so easy to do. Too bad the manufacturer put LOCTITE on the bolts and countersunk screws and most likely were torqued by an automated robot machine. Hopefully, you won't break your tools trying to remove all of them. Also, the tail light needs a smack with the fat part of your palm at the bottom of the light nearest to each side of the tailgate to remove it. There are locking guides that hold the light in place. Do not try ro pull the light assembly straight out like it shows in the video. There is an electrical connector attached to the light that you have to remove before it comes all of the way out. Nothing close to how these performers demonstrated the removal and installation. There are instructions provided, but still lacking some potential hurdles and there is always swearing when working on your vehicle and it doesn't go the way videos or instructions tell you how to do it.

Man, I wish I had of read these comments first! Be warned, this video is COMPLETLY MISLEADING and borders on false advertising for how easy those fuc&!n bolts come out. On this demonstration alone I will not be considering further products from this company. The product itself is good and glad to say I have it installed and working (after 3+ hours of wanting to shoot myself in the face) BUT the installation instructions and video are completely misleeding! It shows the tailgate strap being removed with just a screwdriver and a gentle twist... Bullshit! Every bolt is fused into the body with some checmical grade loctite which will NOT give out with any twist of a screwdriver or any basic hand tool. For the tailgate straps I needed to first take out the tail light then with a blowtorch, heat the nut from the back side to defuse the locktite and then wrench that bolt out. Ruined the bolt as for some insane reason it is a philips head not a socket so can never put it back. The other passanger side would not budge at all with a screwdriver and I had file down the top/bottom flat and get a friend to crank it out with a large pait of multigrips while I heated the nut Just when I thought the hard part was done... the hex bolt is even worse! The hex bolt is the same and requires an impact drill, WD40 and loads of heat to make it break free however I got the driver side off after a good 30 minutes work with the impact drill but passanger side I tried everything for close to an hour using impact rench, budge bar and taps with a hammer and ended up stripping the hex thread completely. I had to drill the head out and use a tungstan bolt extractor and high torque low speed drill to crack the damn thing out after several attempts, then had to use a dremel to cut a flathead groove in the head just to reuse the damn thing!!!! SO after about 3 hours, much frustration and a busted torx bit as well as needing socket spanner, blow torch, high torque drill, bolt extractor, file, multigrips and a dremel tool I was able to get the bolts out and install these damn things. Exhausted to say the least and this isn't my first rodeo but you WILL need to be prepared for some tough work to get these bolts out and at the very end of the bloody manual, last line of last page it states "Some bolts can be hard to remove so we recommend a professional installaller..."., would have been nice to know on PAGE 1 or in this joke of a video. This has kind of soured my experience with how misleading the installation example is shown here. Be warned, you need some decent tools, skill and confidence and serious patience to even attempt this on a Hilux!

Just fitted it to my Ranger and it works well. But not as easy as it looks to install. Didn't have a large star socket so I had to visit my mechanic for help. Easy if you have the tools.

Yes! The video is misleading. The T50 screw on the tailgate is very difficult to remove. I’ve seen other videos where they’ve had to cut the screw out with an angle grinder. Minimum is a torque wrench with T50 torx bit and socket.
@stevestevesteve2 жыл бұрын
The tailgate hinge bolts are insane! They won’t budge. I Used a small blow torch to heat the bolt up, didn’t work, used a hammer drill with a T40 socket, still nothing. Next step is to drill the bolts out. No clue why Toyota decided to do this. If you are doing this make sure you are comfortable drilling out bolts because this isn’t a quick job 😅

This video is deceiving and makes it look like an easy job. In reality, those tailgate bolts never come out that easy due to loctite used from factory. Be prepared to apply heat, etc to get the job done. Yes it is in the fine print of installation guide, but many people purchase after watching this video thinking it's all too easy, only to find that's it's not as quick and easy as you make it look. A little more of a realistic touch on this front would be appreciated by your customers Grunt 4X4.

I'll second that. No mention of how many of your tools you're going to push to failure point. I broke a JBS T40 Torx wrench on the hinge bolt, then tried a T40 in the impact driver to no avail. Used the same impact driver bit in a ¼" size ¼" drive socket and split the socket (not a shit one either). I got the top strap bolt out with vice grips after using a hammer-type impact driver with correct #3 Phillips bit. Reluctant to put heat into it but mightn't have a choice if we're going to get this done. This is just the driver's side, I'm sure I'll have the same nightmare on the passenger side. Hardly worth the effort.

The inner seal is next to useless, there is a massive gap between the seal and the tailgate. outer seal is good.
@osmiumgus8025Ай бұрын
The video doesn’t say, but I used the fatter rubber for the inner seal and continued it in the crush zone above the striker all the way to the top of the tailgate. I don’t think the thinner seal would have worked but the video didn’t say which one to use. The video also says to install the seal “up to the striker”, but trimming it there would leave a gap so I continued with the full length of the sealing rubber all the way to the top of the tailgate, closing and checking and then readjusting the location of the sealing rubber above the striker to make sure I had a good compression seal.
