I have two rovings from friends. Beginning spinner, now I have an idea how to handle these beautiful pieces. My gut for handling them was confirmed by this video.

Thanks for this informative review. I ordered one three months ago but the postal system in US somehow messed up and it never got to here in UK. LWS, after investigating said the best thing would be to have a refund and order from the UK agents I hadn't known about! So, I have ordered one for my Majacraft wheel as the e-spinner one was out of stock. Communication was good from both companies and now I am looking forward to mine getting here in a few days. 😀 Edited to add that I have my Autowinder now and love it. One consideration which is in the instructions is that one should always keep tension on the yarn whilst joining a new yarn, adjusting the speed etc. while the Autowinder is still running otherwise there could be a jam in the thread the yarn guide runs along. I nearly had this happen and if I need to do anything I turn it off for the moment now.

That’s a beautiful batt! I wonder how it would have looked to split it in half and plied the lighter half to the darker half?

This is a great video thanks. I've watched 4 or 5 and they all show more of themselves than of the actual process. I really appreciate the time you put into it with the actual video of the spinning and explanations of what you are doing.

This is a very practical demonstration of drafting into slivers. I really appreciated it, especially with the mishaps, which are bound to come.

This was very helpful! I've just started spinning, and it's hard to find videos explaining how to secure your yarn when taking it off the drop spindle so it doesn't untwist. I would have never thought to just tape it down! Thank you! I really want to try plying my yarn, and using toilet paper rolls is just genius

This is a lovely designed niddy noddy. Who made it??? Is it bespoke? I love beautiful fiber art tools. All the beautiful ones I’ve seen are antique and too delicate or damaged to use anymore.

Thanks so much for this informative video. You've helped me to make my decision 🙂 I like to spin quite finely (lace-weight singles). Given that I have arthritis in my hands, which I'm able to manage while using the "regular" Ashford espinner 3 flyer, curious to know if you find that there's a lot of uptake using this autowinder. The reason I haven't gone with a woolee winder - aside from the astronomical cost - is because I've heard that they have hard uptake and aren't great for spinning fine yarns. I appreciate any feedback you might have.

how many yards can you get on a spindle? What do you do if you need more then what the spindle holds to continue adding the yarn for sy making a afagan?

To be honest I found this very disappointing. I’d have found it far more interesting,instructional and entertaining if your camera had been on your hands most of the time and only occasionally on the bobbin. What a shame, what a waste of an opportunity.

Best video I’ve come across so far. Every other just starts spinning after explaining all different spindles but skip any mechanics of the actual spin. Looks great but gives me no info. You’re the first that breaks it down.

Thank you for the thoughtful review. As someone who spins for the 'zen' of the process rather than the results, stopping to move the guides is disruptive. I'm spoiled by the 'competitor' on my Hansen but I don't want to risk traveling with it. You've persuaded me that this would be a good addition to my travel wheel.

Thank you for your comment…this video is meant to show the autowinder flyer and it’s ability to keep up on the max speed on the Ashford E-Spinner 3. Personally, I do not see a need to spin this fast. You can get much better quality yarn when you base the speed etc on the type of material you are spinning and the way you would like to spin it (woolen vs worsted etc.). If you are looking for video tutorials on spinning hand positions it may help to do a search in KZbin to learn more.

Very pretty, do you spin these or make rolags first to then use to spin with them? Why do you show all the pretty rolags, do you sell them and if so what are the prices please?
@CampYarnsie3 жыл бұрын
You can spin directly from either art batts or rolags. You can purchase our art batts and rolags here: yarnsie.com/shop/

Why would one use a batt as apposed to a a rolag to spin with? I mean why make either or is one better to spin from than the other? I am only just starting out and making rolags on a blending board and not sure if I should be making a batt in stead? Thanks any help
@CampYarnsie3 жыл бұрын
Hi! Okay for one reason - in a batt the fibers are aligned going the same direction and in a rolag they are aligned in a slightly hollow tube like shape where the fibers are aligned in a circular direction. Why would this matter? If you are specifically wanting to spin woolen or a worsted yarn…that is when the direction of the fiber may “matter.” A second “reason” could be the ease of pre-drafting & spinning. Personally, for me it was easier to start spinning from rolags rather than having to break apart a batt to predraft etc. buuutttt…all skills come in good time. I would try one of each to see which is easier for you to spin from (and don’t forget to try spinning from a roving braid too). From my experience taking the time to experiment with different types of fibers to find ones that made my hands go “ahhh” while spinning or got me thinking…I like this fiber for its (shine, slickness, stickiness etc) and I like another fiber for its (fill in characteristic here)…so what would happen if these 2 fibers became BFFS? Pull out the handy dandy blending board and boom…test it. One word of “help” the with the blending board…this relates to the tpi (tines per inch) if your board has a lower tpi number which is great for coarse fibers…and you are trying to blend finer fibers you may want to take that into account (meaning you may need to make a batt, break that batt into strips & blend on board again to get the finer fibers to blend).

Why can’t Ashford make an E spinner that doesn’t need the customer to buy an additional part to spin the yarn consistently?? What are we actually paying for when we buy their E Spinner? It should wind as well! I want the Jumbo E spinner but I do not think I should pay extra for a part for this machine to wind the yarn correctly?? You have made me really re think getting an Ashford spinner at all!! I think the EE 6 from Dreaming Robots sounds a much better machine for the price. Thank you
@CampYarnsie3 жыл бұрын
In my opinion every wheel maker should consider making a winder for their machine...or at least make it part of the package when purchasing a wheel. Each wheel as its pros and cons - especially since we all spin differently (like fingerprints). As a side note the Ashford is not the only one where people are changing the brake band...there are quite a few people who have changed out the band on the EEW 6 as well. The EEW 6 has a great price point and opens up the world of spinning to a large number of people. As far as weight goes - the EEW is a just a few ounces lighter than the Ashford...so don't let the 3d printed fool you --- both are hearty machines in their own right.
@tonithompson43602 жыл бұрын
The Autowinder has been developed by an independant company, nothing to do with Ashford, I love my E spinner and am saving for an Autowinder. The Autowinder people have developed the Autowinder for many brands of spinning wheels which are foot treadles
@lunasmum68693 ай бұрын
Spinning wheels are made to put twist in the fibre and wind it on which is fine for the vast majority of spinners out there. Why put the price of the wheels up by adding something not every spinner would use or want? We now have the choice and that is brilliant. The Autowinder comes in different sizes to fit most makes of wheels whether treadle wheels or electric, it is not just for the e-spinners.
