You can call me a cheap was but just before I got this Civic I had a 94 Nissan Quest with 300,000 on it. Nice to see a Ford that can be as competitive.

Thanks for the great info. I appreciate it. Just did the BG cleaner, dropped the pan and changed the filter, flushed out all the fluid, added the BG conditioner and the friction modifier. Fixed up the torque converter shudder on my 2013 Denali I just got with 212k miles on it. I figured if it caused the tranny to slip, I'd do a rebuild on it. I'll probably do one later anyway. Magnet looked like a Christmas tree. Now time to tear the Denali apart and put that whole drive train in my '65 GMC truck.

Your car is NOT safely supported. A jack stand is only reliable when the weight of the vehicle is already on the jack stand before you go under the vehicle. Jack stands are also supposed to be used in pairs. You should have two wheels fully in contact with the ground before you place yourself under a car. In the single jack stand configuration that you are using, the vehicle weight can teeter-totter between the front right and rear left wheels. Only the rear right wheel is firmly “planted” on the ground. This instability could cause the vehicle to move when you are applying force with a wrench. I don’t mean to be a nuisance. I feel very strongly about safety.

I did some quick research on the Castrol Oil website. It looks like most of the Focus models sold in the USA use 5W-20. The main exception for the dreaded EcoBoost engines starting in 2011, which use 5W-30.

Question: No DTCs, 2012 Focus, I took my car out yesterday, and 2, 4, 6 gears were missing. I turned the car off, restarted it, and they were shifting normal again. Same thing today. So this is intermittent without and codes being thrown. I performed a clutch actuator test with my scanner, but it would not complete and said "clutch position ramp loop failure." Where would you go next in the diagnostic procedure? Have you personally come across this issue? Obviously, I am thinking possibly TCM or actuator starting to fail, but... Thank you, Ben!
@BigBensCarsAndCycles
@BigBensCarsAndCycles Күн бұрын
@Nothingman88 hey, I would move the bottom actuator up top and likewise for the top one. And see if it becomes a problem with the 1 3 5 gears instead. If so replace the actuators. Otherwise tcm
@Nothingman88
@Nothingman88 Күн бұрын
@@BigBensCarsAndCycles Thank you Big Ben! Yes, I was thinking that. I should be able to verify this by checking 5v supply and ground, both at the actuator and the tcm, no? If it is in a state where it is not shifting, and it is a good ground and 5v, then wouldn't that rule out the tcm (all though there are the hall effect and phase wires, and maybe that could also impact the actuator)?

2013 focus 106k miles. Had issues with transmission for a while (for about 2 years), it had issues with shifting into 2nd gear at traffic lights, it was getting worse when engine was getting hot or during hot weather, but I managed to drive it fine most of the time (just revving up the engine when taking off to overcome the shuddering). It broke down when I was driving in heavy rain, turning the corner on the stop light and car slipped, activating traction control and engine revved up quickly (and possibly it wanted to shudder shifting into 2nd gear at the same time), after that lost 2nd gear, reverse etc. Terrible smell came through the vents (assuming it was a clutch smell). No codes ever popped up, still has only first gear, forks on the bottom of transmission are moving with no issues when I pulled actuator. Trying to trigger any codes by shifting in reverse and revving up, nothing happens. Revs up too high in drive, only way to drive it forward without revving up too high is to shift it in low gear. How to troubleshoot? Should I take it to the dealer and get it diagnosed and hoping it’s the tcm that crapped (and then hope for warranty replacement) or should I get a new clutch and forks and swap them out? Thanks in advance.

You would think Ford engineers could design a simple way to bleed a clutch in a Ford Ranger. If you put a bleeder on a system, it should work! But it doesn't. And even having the throwout bearing in the bellhousing is a stupid idea. So I just stop putting clutches in Fords all together,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
