One thing I learned as a lace knitter, is that a lot of openwork patterns, when knitted with lace weight yarn and needles slightly larger than the yarn recommends, turn into the most beautiful, airy, almost ethereal pieces. Change up your yarn or dramatically change up your needle size, and everything changes. The drape is different, the look of the stitches is different, the entire piece changes. That’s what is an integral part of the Ranunculus sweater’s popularity and fits really well in how the Japanese approach knitting. When I was still in High School, I attended an International school and there were a lot of Japanese students. I learned that a lot of the knitters among them had a very modular approach to knitting. They would pick a model of a sweater, a decorative stitch, and then depending on the gauge swatch they’d decide on which size sweater they’d knit whilst ‘slotting in’ the decorative stitches. If my explanation makes sense. Basically, the knitter isn’t as bound to lengths and width or even whether to add a cable or a lacework element. They’re seen as more or less separate elements. The pattern in itself consists of a variety of formulas depending on how you want your final product to look.

How long would you say for double knit wool? I have done 8inches but I’m yet to make it up I think it’ll be too long 😭

So I’m just wondering, I understand the importance of blocking after a completion of a project… Does that mean that it needs to be blocked every time that it is laundered? It would make sense to me if it does, but just not sure about the standard practice. Thank you!

Blocking a sweater refers to laying it flat to dry, making sure it is the same as the original measurements. So yes, you would reblock the sweater each time you wash it. Thank you for your question!

Thank you for your comment. We do not have videos on how to knit this pattern because it is not one of our patterns. If you are local, we would be happy to help in person with lessons. A few of us have knit this, and it is not a beginner pattern but you can find information about all the techniques on youtube as well. The English version of the pattern is well written, if you have some sweater knitting in your background we think you can definitely make it on your own. Happy knitting!

Thank you for you reply, no I’m not local I’m from New Zealand. I am probably classed as an immediate knitter, I think it just quite different to the way I’ve knitted before. I have read the instructions & feel I better understand the technique, when I purchased the pattern I was told there are videos on their website which there are but not in English. I’m sure it’ll make sense when I get started many thanks, have a lovely day 🙂

@@annacameron5454 Based on your experience I am confident you can do this! the construction is more sophisticated and you will be working a pattern from a chart while at the same time shaping the garment. But there is some simpler parts too. You can do it!

How did you go?? I am in the same situation as you...bought the pattern from the wool website and didn't realise the videos are in Danish. It's a different pattern to what I'm used to so need help getting started!!

@@carmencoulter2662 It turned out really well I’m so pleased with it. I really had to read the instructions over & over, watched KZbin closely some of the KZbin had English subtitles but some how I did it. You start at the back knit down to the armholes then pick up at the neck then knit down the front to the armholes then it’s on a circular needle at which point the worst is over, although the Italian bind off was another hurdle for me, again KZbin came into play. I will say note each row down especially where you start to increase at the back which needs a marker placed as I had a problem by not noting & not placing a marker at that point when I came to the front, thought I had it but no had to so the front again. Good luck it certainly is a test but rewarding in the end 🙂
