Hey Michael, I just wanted to say that I wish we had more time to have conversations about things like this while we were in Thailand. Although I didn't initially get your point, I did reflect on how it relates to social media. I think we agreed on the transactional part of relationships but when it comes to expectations with social media, is it a business relationship or a personal one? Those lines can easily become blurred and lead to disappointment if you don't know what the priority is in the relationship. Thanks again for your hospitality and generosity. I agree that they need to win a title but I do think that's coming in the future. I also think that people still remember the Croatian team that won third in 1998 so I don't think a team needs to win a title to be remembered. Thanks for your comment. - Alex

It is often times emphasised that Croatia has a small population of less than 4 million when our footballing succeses are mentioned, but even more important is that Croatia has been taking part in international competitions as an independent country only since 1996 so of course that traditionally strong footballing nations are way ahead of us when it comes to titles and finals. On a side note, when comparing to football superpowers, in the last 5 World Cups Croatia has been more successful than Brazil - Brazil only reached the semis once (in Brazil 2014), Croatia won silver in 2018 and bronze in 2022. When Croatia took bronze at the France 1998 World Cup I was happy, but thought I'd never live to see that happen in my lifetime, but that success was surpassed in 2018 and the WC final and equaled in 2022 in Qatar. Now I won't say that I'll never live to see the captain of Croatia lift a cup one day, it would be great if Modrić and Croatia win the Nations League in a few months, it is an international title, not the top tier one like the Euro or the World Cup, but if we manage to win it, maybe it will be the "click" we need to start winning titles in the future!

She's from Zagreb... I understand your point. A country with the level of success that Croatia's had SHOULD be respected and not considered underdog. However, in war (or sport), the much smaller army (or team) is almost always going to be considered the underdog. So, for all the success of the national team, I don't know if that perception is going to change in the future. Thanks for your comment.
