The reason I'm going to get one of these is exactly the same as what you said. I want a relatively light and nimble (but stable and comfortable) platform to motor up and float back down shallow rivers targeting smallmouth. Thanks for your review.

@@KayakCravegot my U10 a couple days ago. Rigged it with an NK300 and the Nucanoe foot steer kit. Took it on two short single point access river trips. Nucanoe sent me the wrong (too short) steering cable, so I couldn't get the boat trimmed right with my seat so far back. The motor retract kit also doesn't work in the stock configuration, which is a big problem in shallow rivers. I'm going to have to rig something that works, because even when I manually pulled it up and locked it into place, it was still dragging in the water making paddling very difficult (it was acting like a rudder that was turned and locked in place). That said, I like it a lot. It is amazingly stable. I was anchored in current, standing sideways, and fishing without any concerns. It drafts shallow and the drainage through the scuppers is a massive improvement over the F12 I had before. The horizontal rod storage features are helpful, although fitting reels in the "caves" doesn't work perfectly. Once I get the right steering cable and work out a system for effectively tilting the motor, I'll have a better sense of whether it's what I was hoping for, but I think it's going to serve me well.
@KayakCrave2 ай бұрын
@@dbrown8779 thanks for the update. Bummer on getting the wrong cable. How come it doesn’t retract correctly? Was that because of the wrong steering cable as well. The way my Nk180 retracts and kicks up is kind of the best part about it on the river
@dbrown87792 ай бұрын
@@KayakCraveif you get the Nucanoe steering kit like I did, it replaces the stock Newport components for mounting, steering, and retracting the motor. The mounting and steering components seem relatively well designed, but the retract part of it is garbage. When I asked about it in a Nucanoe owners group a bunch of people commented that they've also had challenges getting the retract system to work on other Nucanoe models. All the retract "system" includes is a plastic pulley mounted to the hull and some paracord attached to a handle. When you pull on the handle with any force the hull flexes where the pulley is mounted and it feels like it's going to break. Some people in the owners group suggested adding one or more additional pulleys to decrease the force required when pulling. I did that and it didn't make any difference. Another person said it's important to first pull sharply to disengage the spring loaded breakaway feature on the motor mount and then it should retract more easily. I haven't tried that yet and could see how that might help. Another person said the retract system works a little better with the NK180, which as I understand it is much lighter than the NK300. I can probably figure out something that will work, but I wish Nucanoe designed it better.

@KayakCrave3 ай бұрын
I appreciate the feedback! Yeah I just had to send in the pivot drive a couple times for repair in the few months I had it. Nucanoe repaired it for free which is great, but I just lost faith in it. It also makes your kayak really heavy because it stays on the kayak when you transport it, unless you spend 15 mins taking it off. Just not my favorite pedal drive.

Wow! Really nice detailed video on adding removable rails to the Itek 11 along with the parts list. I just ordered all the components needed for the rails.. However. I just noticed that you listed flat head machine screws rather than pan head screws that would be required for the mount?? Just ordered the correct s.s. pinhead from Amazon and will be returning the flathead when delivered. Exactly where did you position the glued mount from the fill port? Looks like about 1". Any problems folding and storing in the bag with the rails removed? Thanks again for the video and parts list. Still awaiting my Itek 11. Just asked if I can update to the Mirage 180 drive before shipping.
@KayakCrave Жыл бұрын
Thanks! I’m glad it helped you out. I think either would work, but I believe I used pan head, sorry about that. About an inch or two in front of the fill port, and it doesn’t effect folding at all!

Ok. Just received my Hobie Mirage Itek 11 and all the components for adding the H rails. 3 questions: 1. Did you let the adhesive 24 hour cure in the inflated (rounded) position or deflated flat position? 2. Can you still pack all the contents into the travel bag, except for the rails? 3. How are the bonded rail mounts holding up after several months of being continously inflated and deflated ? I am an 82 yr old angler that needs all the help that he can get! Again, thanks for the informative video.
@KayakCrave Жыл бұрын
@@anglerron that’s great your still getting out on the water! I let the glue cure while inflated. I haven’t had any issues packing the bag since adding the hrails. I’ve probably fished about 25 times since the install, and don’t have any noticeable wear and tear, and the pads are staying on great.
@KayakCrave Жыл бұрын
@@anglerron I would definitely just make sure to apply pressure to each pad during the install, and I’d recommend duct taping them down to cure. You can see I did it in the video but I don’t think I talked much about ut
