I'm 12.5% Welsh and only speak English but I have a huge urge to learn Welsh after going on Holiday to North Wales last June on top of being disillusioned with being English ☺️

I did Welsh at school and it seems to me that Welsh grammar is kind of complicated, not in the way that Russian is complicated, more like there are multiple ways of saying the same things from very informal to ultra formal (a much wider continuum than in English). I tried to download the SSI Welsh app but it said this app was written for an old version of Android so it won't work on your phone!

I notice that 'dw i' becomes a single word 'dwi' both in the pronunciation and in the spelling you use. Learning from Duolingo they seem to emphasis 'dw i' as two separate words. Is this a dialect difference, or are they emphasising the difference to teach the structure.
@SaySomethinginLanguages11 ай бұрын
You'll find there are variations in Welsh across the country, including in the way people write things unless they're writing for a more formal situation. SSiW tends towards the spelling that reflects the way that people actually speak.

How are normal people supposed to have the tech to speed up speech to twice its speed?
@SaySomethinginLanguages11 ай бұрын
The SSiW structured course includes Listening Practice files which are sped up to double speed for you, so you can use those to enhance your listening skills.

Novels - that's my goal. I have dabbled in various languages over the years, always through textbooks and grammar exercises and as I'm definitely more 80 than 75, "liciwn i dysgu Cymraeg". Am a reluctant speaker in nearly all of them, but the SsiW approach seems amazingly efficient and effective. It has me practising speaking Welsh in the car from memory.. Amazing! Dw i newydd ddechrau dysgu Cymraeg am tua mis. (Not quite a month yet, but true enough.)

I tried the free intro to Welsh more than 2 years ago (end of 2020) and I still remember what I learned. That suggests that it works. I, unfortunately, didn't have the means back then to afford to take the full course, but I plan to do so soon. I love languages and find them fun to learn. I live in Canada, so I have English (mother tongue) and French, but I also studied Russian and Spanish in school and a bit of Japanese on my own. Now I am ready to commit to learning Welsh, the language of my grandfather, who was born in Llanidloes. I am excited to start. When Irish becomes available (it's mentioned as being "in the pipeline" on the site) I will do that as well, as that represents my mother's side.

Hi there. I've been really enjoying your lessons on the app. What's your advice for people who cannot roll their Rs? 😂Would we be understood just the same?

I think Professor Paul Pimsleur was the first to teach gradual interval recall, which sounds related to spaced repetition.

I look like a deer in headlights! Making this video was... something... :))) But Say Something in Spanish was a start of a wonderful journey. This video marked the end of my SSiS course exactly six months ago. I'm still chatting several times a week in Spanish, I watch countless TV shows in Spanish, I *know* things a person who doesn't speak Spanish wouldn't know. I'm still learning all the tricky tenses but I'm a pretty fluent and a very confident Spanish speaker now - all thanks to the course and the people behind it.

Apart from learning Welsh with Say Something in Welsh, this concept of not worrying about making mistakes really changed the way I viewed making mistakes in anything. I come to realise that each time you make a mistake you are one step closer to being correct.

Great 👍🏻 I’ve just finished Level 2 and will start Level 3 next week … I have no relationship to Wales apart from visiting and the love of the language … mae’n ddiddorol! What a buzz last November having had my first face to face conversation in a book shop in Porthaethwy! All my learning so far has been with SSiW and now I need to build more vocabulary ….. oh yes, and get back to Wales! 🏴😉
