Do a process of illumination. Try other type of factory rounds. You can even try filling a magazine with dummy rounds and cycle the pistol manually. If its not extracting the dummy rounds, then you might have an extractor issue like most M&P pistols that were brought to our shop for examination. So many factors can contribute to the fault of the firearm, including faulty magazine.

Hi Drake, not really sure? This video was based off of failure to feed and extract. Tension on pulling the slide might just be due to the fact that most striker fired pistols have a heavier recoil spring, making a bit more heavier to rack the slide back.

@jadetemplo I hear ya. It's kind of hard to explain. Mines like maybe a thin hair away from having your same issue if that makes sense. The tension is just too much.

That's why the people on this video are all commenting, its because their pistols won't function properly at the range.

These guys all have a smith and wesson issue, not FN.

Are you making contact with the slide lock with your grip when firing your pistol? When magazine is removed, and you pull the slide back manually, does it lock back? Try firing the pistol with one hand and see if it still happens. It might be that your support hand is touching the slide lock when firing the pistol. I really can't determine the cause, unless I see a video of the malfunction happening.

Check the extractor to see if it has sharp edges and lightly polish or use finest sandpaper to smooth it out. Hopefully it helps with your problem. Only do the polishing or sanding if you're comfortable doing it. DO NOT OVERSAND the extractor.

@DrtERotinBasstrd I sanded down the extractor. Unfortunately I can't show that process on video, due to KZbin restrictions.

Feel for the sharp edges on the extractor and carefully fine sand it. Do not not over do your sanding process. Sand a bit and try again. Be sure to remove firing pin when testing during this process.

If you are uncomfortable with this process, send it back to Smith and Wesson.

Hi Greg, sometimes JHP with sharper edges can get hung up. How does it perform with regular FMJ? if it works with regular round ball, then that would explain the issue.

@@jadetemplo it feeds ball ammo flawlessly. I've done more research and have found that a few Shield Plus units have had similar issues. It does catch on the lower segment on the bullet, and it does feed with a pull on the slide. The guys at Sportsmans have seen this before as well and S&W replaced the assembly. I don’t think it’s the years, just a quality defect in manufacturing that was missed. I’ve had mine for about 12 years and thousands of rounds later never had a single malfunction.
