Thanks to this Q&A, I just listened to Brahms Concerto n°1 performed live by Glenn Gould and the NY Philharmonic in 1962. I loved it. And Bernstein's "disclaimer" at the outset is hilarious (actually I have to listen to several other versions now, to understand why it is so "unorthodox")....

Everyone on my mom’s side of family plays piano and my paternal grandmother was the one who taught me, and is responsible for my addiction to having HAD to master the masters. But, I only keep a violin at home now even though I’ve yet to learn to play it.

I have been a fan of Ms Helene Grimaud ' s music making since I saw her first play the Bach Chaconne in a youtube video. There she was , young in age but extremely talented, confident and endearingly self effacing as she sat down to play. But she did not start, she contemplated for a few moments and brought her left hand down and even then she did not play. Then the the heavenly music began and I was transported to a sphere where there was only Bach. From then on, I've tried to listen to her either on youtube or other streaming apps. Since I live in India, it is extremely unlikely that I will ever get to hear Helene play in person but I can't complain. Not when there are videos like this where she talks about what is important to her music making. Many thanks for sharing this video and I hope there will be more such featuring Helene in the future. Recently listened to your 'No. 1' (no prior awareness of the work). I was immediately attracted, then 'sold'.

I recently watched your performance of Brahms' Piano Concerto No. 1 (conducted by Michael Gielen with Southwest German Radio Symphony Orchestra) on KZbin. I pretty much liked it, especially Allegro non troppo that felt like a series of water drops rhythmically and dynamically touching the piano keys. The tonal beauty makes it convincingly thrilling. :)
