Merveilleux

Phenomenal performance of one of the most extraordinary of all piano works.

I think had Schumann been alive today he would definitely have been diagnosed with severe Bipolar. Clara Wieck herself said she was alarmed and disturbed when she played through it. Lupu is superb in bringing out the wild and manic, and equally the dreamy, tender and poetic qualities of this masterpiece.

Interesting to hear genius being associated with mental illness. I think that is somewhat philistine and dead wrong, even if Schumann is a facile target because, quite independent of the assessment of this work, he indeed _did_ turn out to develop a mental illness.

Thumbs down! _TWO_ ads broke through the Adagio section, and two more during the finale??? Why is this monetized, anyway?? YOU didn’t play it, did you?? Making money on the backs of artists like Lupu is obscene!!

I discovered Paul Hardcastle’s music around 2008/2009 thanks to 94.7 The Wave in LA (when they used to play smooth jazz… miss those days). His tracks have remained a staple in my playlist ever since. What a great artist!

I recently only heard this pianist, Radu, for the very 1st time, & simply choose to listen on a regular basis now.His sometimes slower playing suits me very much, in some particular way, whenever it suits.I was devastated when I heard of his death at such a young age- 75 I believe, fairly recently.RiP.Mr Lupu.

Oh dear Lord….. WHY OH WHY does a blasted advert come in the middle of a descending run of notes in an Adagio?? It’s incomprehensible. SURELY, the adverts could be MADE to happen between Movements, not in the middle? It is outrageous. To the person who placed this on KZbin, please DO SOMETHING about these appalling breaks for adverts in the music!
