Ok I really love this story the coldest winter ever . So naturally I read the sequel. To me winter was a a** hole but you gotta love her at the same time

I can see that. Winter was spoiled and thought she knew more about the world than she did. I'm interested to see where SS will take the third book.

Great review. I get what you’re saying about the older books. I actually loved A Love Song for Ricki Wilde. I listened to it on Audio and I was in the mood for a fairytale. The narrators did a great job, it was so New York, and it came out in February on a leap year which was written into the story. That added to the enchanted world the Tia Williams created. It was a fun read. I actually listened to it again because it helped me fall asleep. It was instalove or an inexplicable attraction. I get what you’re saying. Like a fairytale. This Could be Us was pretty good. I agree with your recommendation of read if you have time. I enjoy Kennedy Ryan’s books. I like her vocabulary, the nood to Bell Hooks was a nice touch. I did enjoy the book, but it didn’t leave you with the book high that you feel after reading something that resonates deeply with you. I definitely enjoy your book reviews, how you unpack themes and characters, as well as your critiques!!!

I have definitely read all three of Kiese’s books, the first published versions and the revisions. He is a great thought leader and writer. So looking forward to more work from him! I also watch his interview and follow his socials, he is authentic, raw, and real! After finishing your video, I wanted to thank you for your thoughtful analysis of his book. It’s hard to find others to discuss books that are profound and thought provoking. I Love his mind too! I stumbled across Long Division on a table at Barnes and Noble last year. I had never heard of Kiese. Time travel is definitely not something that I would usually gravitate to, but the structure of the book intrigued me. Then the dialogue between the kids was so authentic and funny. Sounded like some kids from my childhood experiences. It reeled me in and I have been a super fan ever since! I am always interested when people critique a book bcuz I never do that. It’s something that I am learning and unpacking about myself as a reader. I either like it or I don’t. I accept author’s body of work or art as is, allowing them non-judgmental creative expression. The only pet peeve I have in a book is if it drags. Is that weird?
@MsMalcolmHughes
@MsMalcolmHughes 5 күн бұрын
Thank you so much for your thoughtful comment! Yes, Kiese is truly a gem. Long Division has one of my all-time favorite monologues. I recommend it to everyone. And, no, your viewing of the book in totality isn't weird at all. We all interact with art in our own ways 🙂.

I just finished reading daughter in exile by Bisi Adjapon. I had a really good time with it! ☺ I also read the first two books by Tomi Adeyemi in that series. Children of anarchy and anguish has not received many good reviews. I'm now on the fence about reading it. I may have to wait your review to see if I should pick up sooner than later.

Nice review my friend just put me on to these Novels and we literally share like all the same questions and concerns. MTAF was not my fav because it was pretty depressing with all the tragic events but Ethic was a lot better. I questioned the Raven situation not knowing it was Mizan In the ski mask as well. I’m happy in the second book history didn’t repeat itself, maybe Raven was just a naive dumb girl lol! And at the end of Ethic I definitely think they’re going to target Messiah for Lucas and Kenzies death. I hope you have a review for the 2nd book cuz once I finish I will be watching! 📖🔥

Wow, i felt the complete opposite about this book. To me the first book dragged out while the second book was action packed. However, I do agree that book 2 was more about Amari than Zelie. I also agree that Tzain was undeveloped as a character. I disagree with you about the ending of Book 2 though. It seems many ppl are upset about the ending because it dealt with slavery (I don't know if that is the case with you). I don't understand because there were many references of slavery all throughout book 1. Are we forgetting that the reason why Zelie's father almost drowned at sea in Book 1 was because he didn't want his daughter to end up a slave in the stocks so he went fishing to get his coins up? What about the ppl who were forced to rebuild the bridge for Inan because Zelie and company caused the original bridge to collapse? Those ppl who rebuilt the bridge were slaves. And lastly, the water games in the arena. Those were slaves being forced to compete, kill, and die for the amusement of the rich and greedy. So I am confused as to why the ending is book 2 was a problem for many ppl. Thanks for the review. Did your read Book 3 yet by any chance?
@MsMalcolmHughes
@MsMalcolmHughes Ай бұрын
I haven't read book 3 yet. I'm going to read it eventually, but I don't feel compelled at the moment. For me, as I can't speak for others, I think I expected the books to stay on the continent. Yes, slavery was there, but I didn't anticipate the transatlantic slave trade. That felt like it would be a major shift to the storyline. Maybe not. Have you read the third book?

According to you: the Biggest Flaw is the Elixir of Life. Flamel explains that the elixir's formula and ingredients are always found on the same particular page number of the Book of Abraham. It's on the section, which is missing from Josh's two pages. However, the formula and ingredients for the elixir change every time and hence remembering the previous formula (or any earlier ones) would be useless.

So I really thought I was the only one who didn’t have a good feeling when I read life after death, but to hear you say a lot of other people felt the same way is good to know I was not alone and that it was a little weird and disappointing, although it did have some good parts. And with that comment of the new book, the powerful hip-hop hood style BS is corny as hell because I don’t know where they thought this was a comedy. This ain’t funny. This is serious! I’ve been invested myself into this story since I was a preteen! 😑

Now I see that your review is nine months ago‼️I typically wait at least a year after the series is a wrap because I can’t stand cliffhangers, nor waiting for the next book. I had no idea that book 5 was not the end. This ghetto fab fairytale is not my style anyway and this woman needs to hone in her writing skills miserably……. Who knows when Butterfly 6 will be out or if it will be the final book in her never ending rinse and repeat series. She probably has no idea how she will wrap this up.🙄😡

I think the reason winter couldn’t break free of her mentality was because her PARENTS indoctrinated her from the second she came out the coochie, that’s why the intro of the book is her explaining life straight out the coochie. Most of us who were raised in the hood, saw a certain lifestyle and got exposed to it, but usually your parents are telling you to stay in school, get good grades, stay out of trouble, etc. so even if you do go down the wrong path, you have the foundation and upbringing of KNOWING it’s the wrong path. With winter, she was literally brainwashed into believing the wrong path was right, her parents didn’t even have her go to school or study at home.
