I don’t see how braids is black culture at all. Braids have existed for thousands of years (even Vikings wore braids and they weren’t black) but now people want to start problems because most black people wear braids like this now. Like just let people wear braids it’s not that serious

it’s a specific type of braid actually, it’s a protective style that is just downright harmful to thinner hair, and people being upset is mostly because black people were mocked in many places (mainly in white areas) for things like their skin, face, and hair styles as well as clothing. So now for it to be “a style” is a bit offensive to some people. and you really can’t say “that was in the past let it go” because that was something that a lot of people can’t recover from and the prejudice is still very common

I agree. These people aren’t getting them to be mean about the hairstyle, they just think is beautiful, pretty, cool or smt. Cultures have been shared all over the world. My little sister (7) has been begging because her best friends have braids right next door there grandma does them professionally she has been begging my mom yo get them done but my mum said she cant my sister was realy sad she wanted to have beads and be like her friends my mom finally gave in and said maybe but she needs to find someone yo do them cause she doesn't know how

i got braids done when i travelled to jamaica and i was so scared people would look at me crazy/get offended because im very much WHITE (literally fairest shade of foundation 😭💀) but i even had people compliment them in jamaica and back in my home country ❤

I had braids when I was 12 (I am white) and I was sooo happy. I always wanted to have braids. I can still remember how pretty I felt and how happy I was that my dream came true. And I hope that everyone that wants braids can have them if they are white or black. ❤
