I read they smell. Is it the beetles themselves that smell or is it the rotting food they are eating?

Hey, asking for a friend, how long would it take for them to eat a human body?
@bravobby87733 ай бұрын
Considering everything I've seen saying *ideally * you'd need 1000+ for something like a deer skull, probably freaking ages by themselves. The bacteria in your own body will get you faster than them

Thank you very much for the great video! 🫡 Why didn't the beetles finish eating the head and legs? 🤔 Because there are hard scales there? 🤔 There is a video where beetles gnawed the entire snake! 👈🙂👍
@FlockensNekroparlor2 ай бұрын
They do not eat skin, scales, or fur. The snake you saw was completely skinned out.

Awesome video. Thank you for the info! I was wondering about the advice you gave at the end. If i put elk or moose head in ammonia water, for sanitation purposes, what's the ratio to use? Will it affect the dermestid Beatles? Is that the only step prior to emerging into a colony of dermestid Beatles?

Would this process work for cleaning an eel, thats about 22 inches long? Ik fish bones are tiny and delicate.

My heart goes out to you. Good luck with your new(not so much anymore) colony! I'm sure they've exploded by now, which I'll find out in a moment when I check out your more recent videos 😂 I lost my colony when my air-conditioning wasn't an option for many months last Summer. I live in Australia so not only did I swelter, but I had beetles starting to so Super Saiyan(growing wings) and eventually they started to die off. I was so sad. I had only had my colony since the Autumn that year and had grown so fond of my little guys. After making it through the Winter with them, I was so sad to lose them to something as silly as having to wait what became an indeterminate time for my air-conditioning to be installed whilst the units just sat in my foyer for months on end because the landlords kept putting it off. Eventually they got around to it... At the end of Autumn this year... It was very heartbreaking and uncomfortable to say the least. But I'm excited to try again Thank you for sharing your own knowledge and experience. It helps individuals like me an awful lot and has motivated me to start putting together a new and improved dermestidarium myself ☺️💜✨

With all due respect sir in my opinion if you change the title to something else that sounds less (unintentionally)provocative than "beloved sister('s corpse) VS some bugs" people would be less upset about this. Some more-sensitive people would then be able to maintain their composure and proceed to read the description instead of getting triggered and jump to assumptions/conclusions While I'm not a reptile owner or a huge fan or anything of the sort and i understand that it's more like for educational purposes, i do understand about some of the comments here who were upset about this, and, regarding this i do think the title kinda acts as a "fuel" to these kind of feelings they're experiencing. I don't dislike the content whatsoever. I do dislike the fights in the comments and the "edit" statement in the description that in a sense puts all the blame to all the triggered people though. Maybe there will always be haters in the comment section but we don't have to unnecessarily attracts it. I believe we could change it to a more educational title, or perhaps even the thumbnail, or something else too, if necessary, or maybe not?. Just my opinion

I have been selling Buffalo beetles as clean up crews, lots of people use them for cleaning up all the uneaten food in reptile enclosures, its a handy little side bussiness, I only feed them leftover fruit and veg, they live in a big palidaruim in my lounge, with a load of branches and plants, they don't smell bad, unlike my Darkling beetles, and I love spending time watching them with my daughter, made me sad to see them drowning 😢

the problem is it was double sealed in plastic, none of the liquid could escape. No bug could do their jobs, and anaerobic bacteria ARE working but extremely slowly. Really interesting decomp!
