Played this for the stars and stripes forever in concert band, did not know it had lyrics until way after I played it, didn’t know it could be sung so well until I heard it

Absolutely beautiful, Tim. I had tears in my eyes when I saw and heard your performance of this moving song! No wonder Paul McCartney has said that it is the best song of all time! Mark Henley, baritone with Novatones Harmony Chorus, Newcastle NSW Australia.

That slide into the final cord is why I will always love bass. None of that is possible without baritone and lead and tenor fill out the higher end so well. This is why I'm getting into barbershop. Once again, thank you good sir!

I’ve had a CD with this on it for over a decade, and you FINALLY put it online! Can you please do “May I never love again”? It’s my favorite of yours and I can only listen to it in my car when the CD player decided to work

OC Times was the first quartet I got hooked on and I remember learning basically every song off their first album, even before I heard VS. brings back great memories and it’s crazy to know you made their learning tracks - TWENTY years ago…

For personal reference: In articulo mortis Caelitus mihi vires Nearer, my God, to thee, nearer to thee! E'en though it be a cross that raiseth me. There let the way appear, steps unto heaven; all that thou sendest me, in mercy given. Excelsior X4 still all my song shall be, nearer, my God, to thee; nearer, my God, to thee, nearer to thee! Though like the wanderer, the sun gone down, darkness be over me, my rest a stone. Excelsior X4 angels to beckon me nearer, my God, to thee; nearer, my God, to thee, nearer to thee! Oh! Or if, on joyful wing cleaving the sky, sun, moon, and stars forgot, upward I fly.

A well known song that you’ve made sound new. Nice to hear a traditional barbershop arrangement sound almost “modern”. Great perf, as always, Tim. Bravo!

I can’t believe it was 20 years ago!! A new quartet called OC Times called me and asked me to record learning tracks for a song that was arranged by an 'up and coming' arranger, Aaron Dale! I recorded this song for them and it has become one of the most sung songs in the Barbershop Harmony Society. It was also a huge part of the beginning of me recording “TimTracks” on a full time basis. Thank you, OC Times & Aaron Dale for the incredible music over the years. I hope you like this Elvis song, as sung by 2008 International Champions, OC Times! Please check out my Patreon for learning tracks for most of my tags here on KZbin! It helps support what I do here. www.patreon.com/c/TimWaurick. Thanks so much!

I found a video on an old website (that doesn’t exist anymore) around 2006. It was OC Times singing this and I had never heard barbershop before. It totally blew me away and that started my love for barbershop that still stands today. This song always brings me back to that. Amazing clip, as always!!
