This sucks because it’s likely that mr John quadrozzi Jr won’t actually likely save the ship and the Okaloosa county is too focused on thinking the bloody thing rather than giving her away and letting her be restored (greedy Americans at their finest)

It's historically important to realize that at the same time that the SS United States will sunk in the waters off Florida to become yet another Florida money-grabbing 'attraction', her namesake will be buried under the waves of hatred and ignorance as the corrupt and vengeful MAGA hoards dismantle the American Experiment in democracy and decency. What kind of country chooses to lose both the symbols and the reality of its dreams? Shame on this nation.

DONT SINK IT!!! If the "mighty" and once the most powerful country in the world doesn't want to save it's maritime pride and living legend, just take it out of the water and give it a chance to be admired by the next generations... To sink it, is just an unforgivable sin.

Only 3-4 years early (1958) airliners had started to carry more passengers than ships across the Atlantic. So I suppose at this point there was still enough booking on ships to justify them but the writing was on the wall.

Euphemia! Gorgeous, always gorgeous. Deerleap! Tsona! Even the Canadian Coast Guard showed up to honor the CYA boats. Ha, Double Eagle, you know the club burgee is supposed to be flown from the bow staff, yes? 🙂 Handsome boat though. A beautiful sailboat, Dorothy, launched in 1897 ... 1897! The ChrisCraft ... is that Maranee? Must have been, I'd know her anywhere. 🙂 Ah it is! ... so nice to see you Maranee (from Pied Piper). So nice. 🙂 And so many others, such grand boats, so well cared for, and so gently cruised and handled. Sunrise. Even the seaplanes of Harbour Air came in for the event. I don't know who produced this video but it was spectacular. Thank you from a former CYA boat owner (Pied Piper).

Thank you for your wonderful comments! My wife Ruth and I came over to Ganges from Arbutus Ridge in Cobble Hill for the event as spectators, and glad we did. I produced this little video on our return. Glad you liked it! 😊

Watching this brought back fond memories of when my family and I sailed on the Big U. America's flagship, which represents our country, should be in dock and honored, rather than the Queen Mary which represents England. What is wrong with this picture? I learned that she is still structurally sound. Sinking her is a huge disgrace. Monies donated obviously did not go into saving her. It makes me sick.

If they sink her she will live on as a habitat for sea life long after we are gone.

Thank you. It's good to see the ship alive and with a beating heart. Its too bad Okaloosa County is going to sink her for cheap money and politics rather than use her to create jobs. I would love to establish or watch a movie on her.
@bicknell672 ай бұрын
They had nearly 30yrs to come up with the money to save this ship nothing more could be done. The poor ship was being neglected and rotting away and was at risk of being scrapped so in my opinion sinking her was the best end for her. It's sad I know and I would have loved for her to become like what the Queen Mary is today but sadly it didn't happen. 😢😢

The end of an era 😢I was fortunate enough to see the demo in Richmond about 15 yrs ago . Absolutely amazing . The Martin Mars water bomber is / was the best fire fighting machine the province ever had . Its success speaks for itself . I believe it would have had a few good years left to help with fighting the forest fires . Sad to see it retire 😢thank you for your years of service . You are a true legend

Basic reason given for the Hawaii to be retired is the evolution of aviation and firefighting technology. Comparative cost is negligible. I’d challenge that with this. One pass of the Hawaii carrying over 27,000 litres of water could knock down what it would take five CL215 passes carrying only 5545 litres of water each. Id also suggest comparing maintenance, insurance, and staffing costs would still be cheaper using the Hawaii. Just imagine if it was used in the Jasper fire before it got big how much less damage there might have been. Just my opinion.
@MichelleSchnittker-cv9bl4 ай бұрын
I totally agree with you . The Martin mars would be way more effective in fighting fires than all these small planes .
@kittycuddler59734 ай бұрын
I agree as well. In an interview Coulson said there will never be a better firefighting aircraft. If the gov't really wanted fires out we would have a national fire service. But...
