As long as Ruby is happy...that's all that matters! Ok, OK, I admit, I'm a sucker for animals. You have a good setup! So many folks put a full platform across the entire back, leaving essentially no room to sit up, or have any floor space. I think a single bed (25 inches wide) is perfect for single person camping (+ dog). You give the dog the bed and then you can tuck up next to the bed, on the floor! :D

I like the green on the new pack. I was thinking about the after the Whitney hike I should have used the BD Alpine fixed length poles. The Fizan poles I was using is twist lock and would collapse a bit from all the hammering on rocks. Sweet views. Looked like a rough go. Hope you feel better.
@UnlikelyHiker18 күн бұрын
Your Whitney video was excellent! Someday maybe I will do that. 14K feet is very difficult! Elbert was such a struggle for me. I’ve never had luck with twist lock poles. It seems like it’s a weak point imo. Z fold but fixed length is nice too, especially if you fly with your gear. Any z fold style works well for that. Take care!
@rodoutdoors17 күн бұрын
@@UnlikelyHiker Thanks! Feels good to finish editing the series. The Fizans have been fine for my backpacking trips. It's pretty secure for the most part. They are super light weight and don't rattle as much as my budget poles. Whitney was a special case though hah. I abused the poles quite a bit. The BD Z fold fixed length poles feel way more solid in comparison. Still fairly light. I would have felt safer with them.

Beautiful area. Did a trip to Crane Pond a few years ago. We had a lakefront site also. It was fantastic. Need to explore more of the Adk's! Camped on the A.T. in NY last night and one of those cheap blue tarps was in the shelter. Universal junk! I like your new gear! The firemaple stove looks unteresting. Looks like it helped with the wind factor. Like the blanket and towel too! Will have to look into the pillow. Nothing better than a night outdoors!
@UnlikelyHikerАй бұрын
It’s such a great area with pretty easy hiking and lots to explore! It’s cool you camped using a tarp! I’ve done that once. Usually if I use one it’s to add seating under it to a tent. I used one in CO last time I was there. One of these days I’ll start doing sections of the AT. Probably the only way I will be able to see it 😂

Great set up! I have started car camping this year in my 4Runner, with my dog as well. I have watched a bunch of setup videos and always think "well that won't work with my wet dog at all" so I laughed when you had those same comments. I have the third row seating in my 4Runner so lose quite a bit of headroom unfortunately. But I do gain the space between the front and second rows for extra storage. Pros and cons!
@UnlikelyHikerАй бұрын
Wet dog can be such an issue 😂 I think third row seating is a cool feature! Yea there are always pros/cons to any set up. Mine is going strong with only a few minor changes. I got zippered storage cubes from REI that fit perfectly below the bed. Otherwise it’s basically the same. I did have to get a different carpet because of said “wet dog” as well 😂 Take care!
