If there’s one thing I’ve learned from listening to Taylor, especially with Midnights and TTPD, and even throughout Folklore and Evermore, is that, one, she often lies to the media about the true meaning behind a lot of her songs (for good reason), and two, you have to know about the lore and her relationships to understand what and who many of her songs are about. Everyone originally thought that Midnights was about her “great” love with Joe and that TTPD was going to be her breakup album about her relationship with him. When TTPD came out and everyone was left scratching their heads, we all figured out that Midnights WAS actually about the downfall of her relationship with Joe and the beginning of her rekindling a relationship with lead singer Matty Healy of The 1975 and then TTPD was mostly about the end of her relationship with Matty. If you’re not familiar with the decade long situation ship that she had with him, the majority of TTPD will make absolutely no sense to you!! There are “Matty coded” songs going way back to when they first met in 2014ish!! Sorry to say that to those who are in complete denial about this! It’s a touchy subject amongst some of Taylor’s fan base. Jim, you better do your research on this lol. Of course there are the songs about her masters, the industry and Scooter Braun too. I’m just sayin. All that aside though, Taylor is absolutely the most brilliant songwriter/poet/lyricist I’ve ever come across.😊

And WE MADE FRENCH FRIES!! in the ww2 when america saved Belgium they camen in Wallonia and there they had fries but they spoke french so they thought that they where in france. And the flanders is much more rich as wallonia and they want to split up but the state has a lot of debt and they fail whit devinding them

With Mastermind. I think of how I threw several parties just so the guy I was crushing on would not only see me in a certain light but would be positioned to interact with me at some point. I picked the outfits and music so we could have these wonderful moments until he made his move when we "bumped into each other" getting coffee. A curated montage to make sure he thought of me, met me, got small doses of but also didn't feel pushed. A rom com in my head. It worked. I think it could be specifically about a guy but I also think it's about her fans.

What bothered me about this album was the whole 70s aesthetic she was selling with the promotional material, that didn't match the sound of the album at all, i was expecting some new sound from her, and i guess it somewhat was back then, but by TPPD i'm honestly exhausted by it, i truly truly hope she’s gotten out all that moody mid-tempo synth off her system, cause i can't take anymore of it, and im pretty sure most of the audience feels that way

I listen to taylor albums in two different ways . The first listen is just for me, I take the album and the lyrics and sit with it and form my thoughts. The second is from Taylor’s perspective. When I first heard midnights, it hit me hard. Only second to the tortured poets department. Midnights is INCREDIBLY raw, and sometimes you realise that maybe the metaphors aren’t just there for poetic or literary reasons but because they just aptly describe that emotion.

The thing about Sweet Nothings is that the exact same song can be read in two different ways. It *is* a beautiful love song but it can also be a devestating realisation that your partner doesnt need you anymore, isnt paying attention to you or the things that bother you. What seals that interpretation for me is the way she says "All you wanted from me is...nothing." Still a beautiful song on one side but i adore the duality of it. And it feels intentional considering what we know about what was happening in her life. It really exemplifies what this album is about, how it isnt very forthcoming or straightforward most of the time.
When i first listened to this album just straight through without looking into the lyrics and really listening to the production of it I thought it was her weakest album but now I love it and some of my favourite songs are from this album.

a side of the album is like self conscious and self loathing while the b side being like I'm f***ing superior with a badass energy, and after your future reaction of TTPD you'd probably realize that this album might just as well be her therapy transcription

Just finished watching (had to split it up in two listens). My first reaction to midnights was jarring. It was so different, not what i was expecting. Definitely liked maroon, lavender haze, karma, midnight rain, you are on your own kid on the first listen. Some songs felt unresolved: vigilante shit and labyrinth, like i wanted more from them and they never had some sort of payoff. Vigilante shit has grown on me so much because of the tour performance. She performed labyrinth as a surprise song (acoustically in the piano during the tour) and I really like that version. We definitely got a lot of answers with the release of her latest album (or can theorize more definitively about what Midnights songs are about or who). I missed the cowboy. Damn vertical bars.

I'm only halfway through (couldn't stay awake throufh all of it) but can't wait to see if the distance between her vocals and the listener is something that stood out to you overall. In retrospect, this is the breakup album from her 6y relationship but they weren't broken up yet so she obsfuscated, using the tools at her disposal.

Long story shorter: I was not listening to Taylor Swift and was not aware of any of her albums. I started to see videos with Cruel Summer from Eras Tour on Instagram and it caught my eye. That’s why I said: let’s listen to her latest album Midnights. I absolutely loved: Lavender Haze, Maroon and Midnight rain. I listen to the album on repet (with just a few skips) for the next weeks.

Maroon has got to be one of her favourite songs, it was her second most played surprise song during the Eras Tour, playing it 10 times. Most played was You're On Your Own Kid with 11. Then it's 6 instances of Out of the Woods, Clean and Death by a Thousand Cuts.

Generally speaking, in Mastermind, she's being honest about women orchestrating the early stages of a relationship. You know how in the beginning, if you are getting ready for spicy time and she's wearing a matching set underneath, you're not the one who decided to have spicy time that night? That's the idea, but for a new relationship.

The way I rarely check the KZbin versions of these albums but guys if you’re not on Patreon you’re really missing out!! He’s listened to the standard twice with us (once as you see in this video but it was split into parts so he decided to stream his reaction to enjoy the standard back to back) then he did a very hilarious a bit tipsy version of the 3am tracks at well 3am and felt bad so we got another reaction to the 3am tracks as well as you’re losing me sober! The midnights experience was so much fun!

Maroon- I agree it’s a faded red, but it’s also a deeper shade=deeper connection/waking with his memory hanging over her. You’re going to get to find out who this song is about on TTPD. She gets real specific. Hint: he’s in the BAND from Bejeweled. 😅

The 2-1-2-3 on the album cover is not a year. It is part of the CLOCK that the fan can collect. It has another 3 versions with different times and if you put it together it is a CLOCK! Shes a strategist and that's the reason why the album sold a lot cuz the fan collectors will order the 4 parts to form a clock.

midnights have to placed in context of TTPD.so many songs make sense with refrence to TTPD, the context of 13 sleepless night was just a façade for me.(its 3AM tracks that's about sleepless night).

I know you haven't listened to it yet, but I always got the vibe that 'You're losing me' almost works as a prelude to 'Bejeweled'. I think they're about the same relationship and that she reached a point during the desperation from 'You're losing me' where she was like "what am i doing?" ( With a little help from someone else who just happend to be in 'the band') and then bam, 'Bejeweled' 😂 Basically you NEED to listen to the other songs Jim!! Always love your reactions though ❤️
