Thanks for the explanations, I have just started riding and in the last two lessons I started the trot-gallop transition that I am doing in a light set-up and I have already experienced my first fall on a curve due to loss of balance😅, it is not easy to hold it also because I do not yet keep my heels low but yesterday it went much better but there is a bit of fear when you still do not feel sure of the position also because in the learning phase there is various information to concentrate on, but it is nice to know that I have started the fabulous world of gallop😅, a step forward.😊

Hi! I am so sorry to hear you had a fall! There is SO much to concentrate on when you are learning something new, give yourself some grace in the process. I am also wondering if you are by chance putting too much pressure by pushing your heels down and creating instability. Check out my other video on common mistakes where I explain this a little bit further: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eKmbq6pjosiWY5I

@@TheEqNetwork Thanks, yes I noticed both of these errors you mention on my legs, in fact now I'm concentrating while I ride on feeling these sensations and stiffness. Thanks again🙂

heeyyyy so I go to riding lessons and my riding instructor tells me to whip the horse´s butt when the horse doesn´t want to go forward.I try not to do it but I don´t have enough level so I don´t know what to do.Any ideas?
@TheEqNetwork

It is okay to use the whip, we just have to use it mindfully. If you aren't using a dressage whip then you'll need to put both reins in one hand to reach back and use the whip on their hind end. If you are using a dressage whip (which would be easier) you can simply rotate your wrist to reach the hind end. You'll want to make sure either way that you are using a continuous tapping motion and stopping when the horse goes forward. Let me know if this helps!

Hi Thomas, I just checked it and it seemed to play at normal volume on my computer and phone. I would make sure that your volume is turned up all the way on your device and on the actual KZbin player. Let me know if this helps!

Is there a best practice time to hold in the position and number of repetitions ?
@TheEqNetwork
@TheEqNetwork 2 ай бұрын
Hi Sonja! This really depends on your fitness level, but I would start with 30 seconds on each side with a 30-second rest in between in a set of 4 intervals. That is a great place to start and then build the duration until you are up to a minute. If you feel any discomfort stop the exercise!

@irishterminator she has one weak stifle we are working on strengthening but she is sound! I always encourage having a vet do a lameness exam to make sure that any training challenges aren't physical problems. I'm lucky she is 100% sound at 23!

Having video doesn’t seem to matter, horses are riding around on rolkur and blue tongue and judges don’t even pull them out. It’s grotesque

It is so disappointing, I'm hoping with more awareness brought to this issue that we can make news like this less frequent.

What is disappointing is that the FEI doesn’t really care. This happens all the time in these high level completions. Dressage, eventing. Jumpers, racing. It’s coming to an end. He was fired in Germany for being so hard on young horses and yet here he still is. It’s rampant.. the only difference now is that people record it and the whole world sees it. Very sad

A horse being girthy is almost always because of pain. Whether that be ulcers, worms or a sore belly, a saddle not fitting properly, some kind of pain in the body such as tight muscles/tension, usually in the back or neck or even something else that they associate with the girth being done up such as knowing that when the saddle goes on and the girth goes up someone is going to do something that they don't like/that causes them pain is going to happen, this could be anything from riding being uncomfortable for them in some way or even just not liking a piece of equipment such as the bridle or martingale that they know goes on not long after the girth goes up. Girthy-ness is just they horse trying to communicate how they feel to you and often (unless the pain is very very strong) they will give you other smaller signals before becoming girthy (such as a pain face) and progress their behaviour to become more noticeable if they fell like you haven't listened to what they were communicating, whether that be because you didn't notice or because you punished it or just ignored it. It can also be from pain memory when something has caused them pain for so long even if the cause has been found and treated they still expect the pain because they've learned that girth = pain
