100% Stereo in your headphones is different than stereo at the club or festival. Between the mixing and DSPs and speaker types, you're definitely not getting "normal" stereo. This video is a perfect introduction to it and raises awarness of this fact.

If mono centric mixes are optimal, why do all record labels chastise you for not having a steereo wide mix? Like realistically, as an artist trying to be taken seriously... wtf am I supposed to do here? On one hand, people refuse to listen to my songs if they are too mono because "you need to learn how to mix", on the other hand, you can't play your tracks live because "you need to learn how to mix". It CANNOT go both ways and one absolutely MUST give way, so which is it?

Interesting. Well I've been releasing on all kinds of labels big and small for 15 years. Never had that said to me. Although in general I advise self-release these days anyway, those don't sound like good labels to be using regardless.

Well there's a big argument for finishing stuff fast for that reason. I don't care how good the loop is 8000 rotations is always tiring. The more you practise though the faster you can become at making decisions, And the natural ear training over time means you mix less too.
@MARQUESSONICS17 сағат бұрын
this comparation is not good at all, as long as you have done minimal processing there is no big difference in freeware vs paidware. i have read you didnt even use distortion...
@Bthelick14 сағат бұрын
There's a few plugins on each track. Regardless, you'll find professional engineers like myself don't use much processing, because the longer you have done this , the easier it is to know where the destination is , And you'll also have the knowledge so that you don't have to make many moves to get to that destination , that also goes for having good quality source material in the first place which doesn't need much processing. For professional engineering as a career, this is a valid representation. And I stand by the principal, even if we needed 20 plugins per track, some of these waves plugins are now over 20 years old (I know I've been using them for that long), the freeware outperforms them, on an aural level and a technical level. What exactly is wrong with a professional passing on the knowledge that I have attained helping people save lots of money not buying unnecessary tools??

I bet getting Fruity to do it for me is a good answer lol. But for now it suffices, and it's probably more than my current mixing skills deserve anyway. Seen the techiestuff on clipping before, makes sense. Most of it does. But between things making sense, or me making sense with a thing in my hand... There's bound to be some discrepancy there.

Excellent. Information here. I'm new to this channel and think it is very professional, but certainly not basic grade. Is it possible that you could do a series in 2025 for the absolute beginner? Going from daw, to everything needed from that to producing a beat and creating a tune?
@Bthelick19 сағат бұрын
It's possible, though many many others have covered that at this point. How beginner are we talking? Do you have a daw yet? Do you know what midi is?
@spirittravels.22 сағат бұрын
What daw is this, and which one do you recommend?
@Bthelick18 сағат бұрын
I use Ableton live , I find it really fast. I would recommend either Ableton or FL studio simply because those are the most used by far, and they have the most free tutorial support on YT. Have a look at some beginner tutorials for each DAW and see which seems most intuitive to you

I have a question. When someone makes a track and play 3 chords and few notes and is a hit, do they actually know is gonna be a hit? or they hope for the best? I know most likely not but I'm trying to undstand why some or most of the songs sound good only after listening few times (fully mastered). Now at the time of making it, whoever made it (generally speaking) he is putting down few chords, some notes, lyrics and stuff for the first time and being the first time and being a rough track, how does he/she knows is time to go ahead? because surely must sound pretty basic and not that good... but decide to continue with that little amigdala saying ....hmmm.... not quite good so far. Sometimes I try to break down other songs at the starting level and being few chords, notes etc, it doesn't catch me in full and think that is too simple and even when elaborated, still doesn't sound that good because I didn't hear few time as a "stranger". Not sure if i explained properly but I can try better if needed.
@Bthelick18 сағат бұрын
No not really, in some more established teams with very very good dedicated producers like Rick Rubin you might have an inkling, but 99% of the time me and every other professional artist I've ever met hasn't been able to call which of their tracks were hits until they were. That's why I release three tracks a week, finished or unfinished! Because you never know who will like what!

Completely disagree, even those off their face stop dancing when the beat isn't working or main lead they want to sing/chant to folds to nothing. I take it you're a DJ that's never lost a crowd through this problem then?

I can't stand the sound of a house beat! The only house I actually like -- and truly so -- is James Holden. This artist tends to combine not the usual gay sounding sounds with an atmosphere of spookery, and psychedelicia. Born under the Moon in Scorpio. Emotional depth! what a profound thing. But, to each is own. I don't judge you for your sins.

Superb explanation as always of the what and how… I was wondering if there’s any insight as the why one would come to changing/combining the chords so drastically? Is it just experimentation or is there another theory behind it?
@BthelickКүн бұрын
Well it always starts as experimentation, And then after enough years of that you develop the taste of what you like. Also I will note, despite Virgi being fairly musical, he does treat his music parts like sample loops so I think the rapid dropping and changing is part of that aesthetic too.

Sorry, no I would require the publishing rights from Hayden's publisher to do that. Also I use third-party samples like splice, so I would need a redistribution licence for every single one of those too!

Some headphones are stereo
@Bthelick2 күн бұрын
They will all list themselves as 'stereo" but that's not the definition I'm referring to. The fact the left ear can't hear the right signal means they are all binaural technically.

I finished his industrial techno course and deeply enjoyed his workflow. 0 bullshit teacher, tells you exactly why he does the things he does, with just about enough room for creativity without compromising the "get shit done" attitude. Essentially points you in the right direction and kicks you in the ass. He is daw agnostic, so you do have to know how to use your tools, you also need a pair of ears and something in-between.
