Why couldn't I have been introduced to bluegrass back when this was going on😢

As rough as this tape is, these guys exemplify bluegrass. The three part harmony of male voices coupled with instrumental acrobatics is something you don't get anywhere else

I can’t play and sing that song without getting all choked up. I can’t finish it without my voicing cracking

I first heard this song sung by Tony Rice, Ricky Scaggs , JD himself and Dobro-man Jerry Douglas. It is a a recording done with these guys while giving talks on Bluegrass and the instruments in between songs. Simply love that video (on youtube now) So glad to see JD still dong well up to this time. Bluegrass fan from South Africa

Eyes not so good anymore. But isn't this a Yates Skillethead? My son lives in Finland and has a pal who needed a banjo. I bought this banjo from Stewart, held it til my son arrived in Tx on vacation. He hand carried the banjo and gave it to our pal. Pal paid me with a Finn money order.

i love jd crowe and the new south and this old bg standard, dark hollow. there have been many variations of the new south, (all good) but my favorite was the 1975 group which included jd crowe, tony rice, ricky scaggs, jerry douglas and bobby slone. they were great young artists on he road to super stardom. boy could they play and sing!!!!! brings a big lump to my throat every time i listen to the old bg pickers. i've been enjoying bg since the late 1940's. soooo many greats have moved on to the big stage. god bless bg music. thanks for the post, kt

I was born in the Southland Twenty-some odd years ago Ran away for the first time honey When I was four years old I'm a freeborn man My home is on my back I know every inch of highway, Every foot of back road Every mile of railroad track. I got a lady in Cincinnati A woman in San Anton' I always love the gal next door Honey, every place is home I'm a freeborn man My home is on my back I know every inch of highway, Every foot of back road Every mile of railroad track. You may not like the way I look You may not like my song You may not like the way I Live You'll love the way I'm gone I'm a freeborn man Home is on my back I know every inch of highway, Every foot of back road Every mile of railroad Every mile of railroad Every mile of railroad track

Ten years ago, on a cold dark night There was someone killed 'neath the town hall light There were few at the scene, but they all agreed The slayer who ran looked a lot like me The judge said, "Son, what is your alibi? If you were somewhere else, then you won't have to die" I spoke not a word, though it meant my life For I had been in the arms of my best friend's wife She walks these hills in a long black veil She visits my grave when the night winds wail Nobody knows, nobody sees Nobody knows but me The scaffold stood high, eternity neared She stood in the crowd and shed not a tear But sometimes at night when the cold winds moan In a long black veil, she cries on my bones She walks these hills in a long black veil She visits my grave when the night winds wail Nobody knows, nobody sees Nobody knows but me Nobody knows but me
