What a great topic if conversation. I have had many of these same thoughts throughout my life.

I learned so much from listening to this conversation. A few of my takeaways were: Photos allow you to see a larger depth of field - creates the standback view that we often don't take when we have our eyes on the garment we are sewing... I appreciated Nancy’s point of view re: “image” and “dress” , as well as how change of life circumstance leads us to rethink how we feel and want to be seen. I hope to incorporate this question when I start a project - "What would you be asking if you were sewing for someone else..."

Omg!! You are a very clever and meticulous seamstress. I have to sew on four if these to a baby romper and it occurred to me...erm " how do I align them?" You have demonstrated how to by using a pin I also greatly love the idea of forming a loop to see them on. Thank you so much.

Agree with the earlier comments. Watching you work through this process has been so helpful. I just realized I’ve been incorrectly placing my pattern on the fold line wrong! Probably why I’ve had fitting issues. Thank you for sharing this educational video. Lovely fabric, too.

I really appreciate your video! Thank you for showing your assessment method, along with the garments you made that didn't work for you, and also your calculations for how long it would take to alter them. Sewing is a hobby for me, and I am often critical of myself for how long my alterations take, so it's reassuring to know that they can in fact take considerable time even for pros. It is also good to know that you sometimes decide that some alterations are just not worth either the time, or that the type of fabric won't yield the desired results. I so appreciate the reality check! :)

Fascinating! This approach is much more localized and controlled rather than simply reducing the circumference of the front bodice along the entire the CF/fold. 🤔❤

Sarah, I learned about your Horizontal Balance Lines from Alexandra Morgan. I also have your fitting book.I appreciate what you contribute to the home sewists community. I have also learned about making slopers/test patterns and garments to achieve the correct fit and styling before working on my master fabric. I've also learned that I look better wearing princess lines.

I’m a little late in catching this “lecture” but it was so fascinating. Agree with others, your video presentation was perfect. I’m a beginner but this video really helped me in understanding seam finishes. Your advice on finishing a seam based on what the fabric wants to do is a real game changer. Love the use of your butterfly seam finishes. I will now embrace the fact my “me-made” clothes will appear quite different on the inside and not keep trying mirror RTW clothing. Looking forward to viewing future lectures in 2024.

I agree with you about looking at garments for their details. The garment may not be me but I can see how I could use one or two of the details and adapt them to a garment I want to make. Thank you for going through the assessment of your finished garments. I like your idea of keeping swatches of the fabric you used with the pattern and noting the type of fabric, interfacings, facings, zipper placement, etc. and what you liked or didn't like about it and what you would change next time.

Hi Sarah. I have known about you for a number of years. I have your fitting book and I recommend it. I didn't know you had a YT channel. I'm surprised I didn't notice it before... I think it's the YT algorithms that don't always do a great job of finding related videos for the subjects I follow. You look better than ever. Your lilac velvet top goes so well with your hair highlights.

Great idea for a video. Listening to how you work through a fitting was a wonderful review for me and reminded me of some things I should be paying more attention to (like taking a photo of a muslin with all the horizontal and vertical lines). I relate to Chris' comment about reaching a speed bump. Thank you, ladies, I look forward to your next video.

Very educational. I have that same pattern and have always had to make changes because my bust measurement aligns with a 14 but my hip measurement is a 16. My waist measures 35 so I'm in-between sizes. Blending is always a must for me but I live with it. I learned something new from your video and that was reducing the hip size from the outside of the lines which I would have never thought to do. Thank you!

There is a cream colored project made up with a similar pattern hanging in my laundry room as of yesterday afternoon along with my super frustrated feelings. Moved on to a pair of moderately full leg pants. Hopefully they’ll be a comfortable fit as I have really put a lot of thought, research and time into them. I’m feeling so grateful to have you and just a few others online to turn to for advice and to also listen to your unexpected experiences and thoughts. When disappointments happen I have learned tidy up a bit then to turn to my machine and smile. So grateful it still lets me sit along its side.

I really got alot of good information from your video. Your checklist will help me "zero in" on why I don't care for a certain garment. Saying "I don't like it" isn't enough. I need to know why I don't like it. I am finding that it is easy to get swayed into a certain style or a certain garment that I see on Instagram, etc. but when I make a similar garment, I don't like it all. I have to make a conscious effort to stay with what works for me. Thank you for a great video.

I'm very glad to hear that my video has some helpful information. I think figuring out our likes and dislikes is so useful so we concentrate more on what will work. Certainly some experimentation is a good thing. But for example, if I see a photo of a super fitted garment with a cool neckline, I now know I want to concentrate on the neckline itself, because I don't like super fitted garments.

I appreciate your analysis of the knit fabrics. I am working on creating blocks with different stretch ratios fitted to me. Now my challenge is to try different fabrics and find what I like. I also need to experiment with different types of necklines and sleeve lengths, and a big challenge is to add flare. I e already discovered that I don’t care for the stretch being over my tummy so disguised it by adding ruching at the lower hem on the sides. It will be good for yoga. I will use that fabric again but with more ease added. This video is so helpful!

Good thought to add ruching over the tummy. Sounds like you're well on your way to figuring out what knit fabrics work for you / work they way you want them to. I hope you have fun with your experimentation! @@donnadecourcy7332
