@@gavinlikesbikes it's rad because you can make either side fit anywhere from 16" to 29" wheels. perfect for the wheels on the omnium. prolly should've mentioned that in the video haha, geez.

those damgood hinges are pretty but they'd be 148 euros to ship and import here. what other alternatives did you consider when looking for a hinge like this? does anything comparable exist a bit cheaper?
@stay_loose
@stay_loose 9 күн бұрын
unfortunately with a highly niche and nicely built product like this, that's just the cost. i will say you get what you pay for with these. but look out for Omnium's own version coming soon. though i don't know what their pricing will be, or how they work necessarily, i'm sure shipping within Europe will not be as drastic.

@@brandonsouba using thread-lock cuts down on the time needed maintaining stuff like this. you still have to inspect the bolt, but way less regularly. Sandy Munro calls bolts "threaded un-fasteners" (as opposed to threaded fasteners). i think it's a clever little joke, but it's also true

When you're riding an omnium without cargo it feels pretty much like a regular bike. If you have the mini-max you can take it into elevators and trains and such because it's not much longer than a regular bike. You can relatively easily lift an unloaded or lightly loaded Omnium and carry it on stairs when needed, both because it's only about 20kg but also because it's very well balanced and you can pretty much just put it over your shoulder using the top tube. Of course once you load up the omnium with over 50kg it's no longer as fun and nimble but still quite doable. The bullitt on the other hand is built for having load, 50kg handles like a dream. But it's too long for regular elevators, too heavy and not easy to lift. For me personally, if I were to choose a bike for the rest of my life, it would be the omnium mini-max because it's both a really fun bike and can still carry a person or a ton of cargo when you really need it. So if you're planning on hauling heavy and bulky cargo regularly or want to transport more than one child, I'd go for the bullitt. If you want to get our groceries home, maybe a christmas tree or some smaller furniture, or have a kid on there, and still want to have a fun bike, I'd go for the omnium. Also if your storage options are limited the omnium is much more compact. ps. I've used the bullitt for deliveries for many years and i currently have both an omnium for when I want to have fun with my kids on there or if i want to go without electric assist, and a regular long-john cargo bike for when i need to put in both kids and groceries or it's raining etc.

nice! hard to say! that's entirely dependent on you, the weight/tires/gearing of the bike, and conditions like wind and weather. personally, on a beautiful summertime overnighter a few years ago with no wind and flat paved bike paths, my 42lbs/19kg (with gear) bike and i were cruising around 12-15mph/19-24kmh at any given time. as soon as i hit elevation though it was closer to 5mph avg haha

I took my '90s rigid MTB on a singletrack with a DIY cargo trailer attached, as a test to check for its weak points. Fun as shit, and useful to learn its limits: every single bolt unscrewed itself and I almost lost the wheel twice lmao, I added washers, locknuts, threadlocker, and it is now fine!

What what wheels and tyres do you use? (and happy with them?)
@stay_loose
@stay_loose Жыл бұрын
I built the wheels myself using a White Industries rear hub, and a Shutter Precision dynamo hub up front. the rims are carbon from a company called Nextie, and i've had nothing but good luck with them. we would build up a set of wheels with these rims at least once a week at my last shop. As for tires, Schwalbe is one of very few brands that makes tubeless ready 20" tires, so i went with a slightly more aggressive rocket ron on the front, and one of their XC tires on the back, the racing ralph. TLDR - custom and yes, stoked on em!
@Elefantenklo23
@Elefantenklo23 Жыл бұрын
Wow, Sounds awesome, just as Video. The tires are 2mm (with 57mm) wider than Omnium suggests for the tire width. We’re there any issues? Despite the minimal weight loss of Carbon to Aluminium especially in the 20“ wheel (650gr. vs 280gr) have you had a choice of driving another bike to compare them?
@stay_loose
@stay_loose Жыл бұрын
@@Elefantenklo23 tires are close, but totally fine if you stay out of chunky mud. i have ridden the same rims on non-cargo bikes and they are rad. that minimal weight loss is super noticeable when you first spin up. definitely feel it when you're stopping and starting for city riding on this thing.
