Your colour reproduction of Sonic is very poor and the point of the game is simply to get to the end. Scores is only optional. The real aim is to collect all the chaos emeralds by beating the bonus stages which is a fair challenge. The aim of the game isn't simply to go fast either. There are constant traps and obstacles and opportunities for speed are quite rare. The 2 parts where you must wait on level two are for about 2 seconds, followed by a jump, then two more seconds. Then later about a 4-5 seconds. But in Sonic 1 there aren't many pointless speed sequences where you wait. In Sonic 2 and 3 it's most of the game. followed by waiting on platforms for way above any waiting times in this game. Mario is not even worth mentioning. What a joke.

The Sega Genesis Mini is my Favorite Mini of All Time

These two are hard to compare for me. Graphics: Mania Music: S3&K Gameplay: Tie Replay Value: Tie It all comes down to preference, but I suppose I prefer S3&K because the soundtrack is much more enjoyable to me.

I like the Tengen Version

I loved the Sega Genesis. I think it had consistently better games and a better system overall. I have around 70 Sega Genesis games and nearly everything included on the mini. The SNES absolutely has the best top 20 games or so. In fact they are superior for the most part. After that Sega Genesis wins. Too many bad licensed games for the SNES and a few games that are sluggish bad ports. Sega Genesis was consistent. I’ve seen lists for worst Genesis games and always find about half of them or more are games I enjoy. I have the Japanese Super Famicom mini. I already had Super Castlevania IV on the Castlevania Collection and wanted Legend of the Mystical Ninja. I agree with the others who say they got both. Too many essential classics on both systems.

I so wish they would have stuck with a pixel art style but in HD. That’s a huge misstep in my opinion. But I will admit the OG as iconic, unique, and fun as it was is now a bit slow to play through and there are some insanely annoying enemies. It feels like this new version fixes gameplay but misses the mark with style. It oddly feels retro… but retro to the wrong era. Like you said a flash game or something. I hate the look of the 3D island and shadows. It needed one cohesive art style with that 2D line drawing that they half did or scrap it all for pixel art. If they had nailed the art this would have been a no brainer for me to buy.

You have to agree that all the gameplay of Sonic game shown in this video is about running and jumping in enemys heads, jump to achieve higher places, sonic ALWAYS jump in the same way, with the same sound and is about running to achieve the finish line, really what sonic does besides that? Lets be fair and technical here. The game is a straight line to the end, a short game. Now the game speed is great, scenary art and music sound too, in general is a GREAT game. But Super Mario World is a masterpiece. There's no discussion that the amout of things Mario DOES in the game is incredibly more than sonic, there is no comparison, you have to admit, like taking Yoshi and eating spit fire or the entire shell depending on the enemy or thing, you can grow up with the meshroom, enter into pipes, changes clothes and onbtain new sorts of power, try speed with the flying clothe go up and down and hit the ground, also you climb into fences swap sides and punch enemies, mario holds shells and other things that can throw to destroy things, and the sound effects chages depending on the situation, underwater or not in a castle for example the sound are more echoed, also there's the secret worlds, all of that in a HUGE GAME, its speed is also incredible, the music in the beggining (theme sound) who ever heard never forgot and is recognizable for everyone even in 2020's, definately the 90's game.

I prefer the tengen version myself because of overall features and the multi player mode with that being said modern TETRIS actually has All the features of the tengen version.

By hacking, you can find a 2-player mode that's playable, but very janky. More information can be found on TCRF. Why they didn't finish coding it in is beyond me.

SMW is clearly better, but I think Sonic 3 & Knuckles is a lot better. Sonic 1 & 2 I think are inferior to SMW

I always preferred Tengen's version. Nintendo's version not having a 2-player mode took away from the fun.

Crecí jugando la versión de Tengen (incluso hoy lo sigo jugando). Cuando probé por primera vez la de Nintendo, se me hizo incómodo. La de Tengen tiene gráficos mas fluidos, el soundtrack y un detalle no menor no mencionado en este video: los colores de las piezas antes de ser colocadas. Una vez que identifiques el color de cada una, la experiencia de juego es mucho más sencilla.

The one thing that stands out about the new version is that it looks a little cramped and lazy in the way that they just kind of scattered enemies and random other artifacts around. In the original, you usually only had to contend with 1 or 2 npcs at the same time and it had a very natural feeling layout throughout the whole game. Not a huge deal, but definitely noticeable that it felt like someone was trying their best to "recreate" the original, without quite the amount of talent and ability that the original designers had. ToeJam and Earl for Genesis was absolutely groundbreaking in every way for a game that came out in 1992.

Toejam and Early is genuinely a top 5 game of all time to me, although I'm 100% aware that's because I was a Genesis kid before any other console. That Sega intro and the intro theme music are the most nostalgic music in all of gaming for me. Nothing beats this game in terms of it's lax attitude and sarcastic humor.

Both iterations of Tetris are considered timeless classics in their own right. Personally, I prefer the aesthetics and music of the original Tetris Nes game over the Tengen Tetris version. Therefore, when gaming alone, I tend to stick with the Nes original, whereas when gaming with another person, I opt for the Tengen version. Although there are a few 2-Player Nes (hacked) versions available, the sped-up music can become quite bothersome during gameplay with 2 people, and it lacks the various 2-Player multi options of Tengen Tetris. Interestingly, there are a couple of 2023 rom hacks available for both games that are worth exploring, such as the "Nes Tetris Nostalgic" patch (Classic Background) for Tetris Nes and the "Vs Flat" patch (Tetris Nes Styled Blocks) for Tengen Tetris. However, I am still eagerly anticipating someone to hack the Nes music tracks over onto the Tengen Tetris game. MUSIC Type A - "Korobeiniki" (the original Tetris / Game boy theme song) Type B - "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy" Type C - "Same song as the original Nes Type C Song" Runner/s Up Game Boy - "Type B & Type C" (Original Versions) Famicom - "Technotris" (Tetris Bulletproof original song, that would need to be redone to fit in with the other tracks - quality wise)

This was interesting. A shame that we really weren't given much of a choice back in the day. Especially since most of the time Tengen's version seems to come out on top. I prefer the original Gameboy version. It's just fun, clean, has good music on all options, and you can mess with your friend by dumping a bunch of trash blocks on them sometimes.

The original did something that I NEVER hear anyone talk about. How did it store 25 worlds , enemy and item placement in real-time memory?!. This was the genaration where re-spawning enemies when you re-enter a room was the norm. This was something elce.

The SNES mini is a must, but the Genesis mini is the gold standard on what a mini console or gaming compilation should be handled, especially with the UI, thankfully in part to M2. Both minis threw in some pretty big heavies that later caught on to collectors. The fact that the mini2 can do Sega CD and gives the ability to choose which model sound chip you wanna use was a blind siding slam dunk.
