they will need to have something to keep the dolie from capsizing when they start removing the bridge from the deck of the ship.

Hey Sal !! NO audio on the video that shows the ship heading for the bridge ,know they radioed to have the traffic stopped, but did they sound the ship's horn to warn those workers on the bridge of the issue ?? Had they done this, those workers had the time to move !!! 🤔🙄 Thanks for your time on this !! 👍👍👍👍👍

Thanks again for another excellent explanatory video, Sal. You're right about the poor management of our ports. A stalemate between federal, state, and appointed oversight boards tends to get nothing done except, if you're lucky, maintaining the status quo. Private operators and carriers want to makecmoney. They are always happy to take federal and state grant money to make the ports more profitable for themselves. They offer some jobs in return to the state... maybe tax monies or PILOT funding through some fee system. By and large the states pay for dredging and maintaining the channels; the USCG shoulders the responsibility for the navigation devices and safe waterways; the state DOT is responsible for the bridge maintenance and traffic over the water; the governor's office may call the shots or have an appointed commission to oversee issues at one port or all state ports. A lot of money spent on salaries, very little comes back to taxpayers, and a lot of course is collected by these shipping companies.

Maritime law limits the damage done by the barge to only 44 million , I guess the taxpayers are on the hook for the balance.....any comments???

Great report. This wasn't a bridge just for locals and trucks. Many of us using cars on I-95 (which goes from Maine to Florida; I used it NYC to DC) liked it because there can be congestion at the tunnels and because the bridge's lanes are somewhat wider. And there was a really pretty view; an exciting bridge to cross. Did I hear Staten Island? Ahem. The Port of NY and NJ is in Jersey. All ships pass under the Bayonne Bridge, which very unusually had to be elevated to allow the jumbo container ships to pass below. It's a steep drive up and down; I dont think I'd want to do it in snow.

What _is_ that grey or white (metal?) object at the start of the video?

First there are 3 bodies to recover which is probably in that limited access channel area and second you said they are focusing on clearing the area where the limited access channel will be but I’ve been them seeing cutting the trusses outside the channel area?

Wouldn't a tunnel be a safer solution in locations where a bridge collapse could shutdown a harbor? Any civil engineers out there for comment?

Yes. Just vastly more expensive.

Isn't it amazing that the USA promotes freedom for private enterprise to raid the pockets of the population but when things go wrong private enterprise disappears and taxpayer funds (Army Core of Engineers) are used to fix things!

what a joke, after 16 days the ship is still there with a piece of bridge on it's bow. Don't they have real engineers in the US? No not those army wannabee's

Hi The Marine Minute, thanks for the very thorough exposition on the salvage of the M/V Dali and clean up operation of the main channel of the Port of Baltimore. I am the first one wishing the reopening of the channel and the port were possible to occur as soon as this same week, but unfortunately, due to the current conditions of the channel that is not the case, in fact it may take several weeks before they can remove the tons of debris from above and below the water. I am a retired marine operations specialist and I know the difficulties involved in such a difficult operation like the one we are talking about, and I know the aprox amount of time required to clean up a navigational channel under those circumstances. They are very optimistic, but not realistic, when they say that by the end of may they will be able to use the main channel again like before the accident, unfortunately It may take loonger than that. A more realistic dateline will be the end of June for that to happen. My condolences for the families of the victims

I appreciate this video. So many people complaining in the comments that the work is going too slow or people are dragging it out on purpose but when you get a view of the real thing like this you see the enormity of the job and the sheer size of the "pieces". People nowadays want instant gratification and expect an instant cleanup but just look at the size of those pieces! 1:20 there has to be 60 tons of scrap on that barge from a couple of regular excavators working away. This will get done carefully and methodically and persistently...not by yelling and insisting and not having a clue

And let's not forget, there are still three unrecovered bodies of highway workers under that main trestle, which should be the first priority - not shipping. You didn't mention that.
