Thank you. A very helpful video. Cleaned out the hole, re-centered the top, and stove top is back working. Luckily did not have to order an aftermarket part this time.

I have a Kitchenaid, 5 burner, gas cook top. The two burners on the left will light, but shut off as soon as you try to adjust the flame. The other burners all work fine. Is this a common problem? What's the fix?

Thank you SO MUCH for posting this video! Just subscribed to your channel. I am coping with a somewhat similar situation with 3 existing pendant light fixtures above my kitchen counter island. They are 31 years old, and the sockets and the wiring have gradually reached a point where there has been a compromise in safety. Christmas is in a few days, I'm kind of working in the dark, and I don't exactly have the money to purchase 3 new fixtures, nor do I want to... I love the ones I have! I'll be showing this video to a loved one who is more skilled with electrical work than I am, do determine if this process is a viable option for my situation. Hopefully that's the case! I really enjoyed this video- it was easy for me to understand, despite my current lack of experience. You were to the point and on track, but still very thorough and included all of the relevant step by step instructions and details. Thanks again for posting this, and I wish you and your loves ones a merry Christmas, happy holidays, and a happy new year! Fawn 😊

I have a flange on a basement toilet that sits about 1/4 above finished tile. I tried a new toilet and it does not sit on floor. The tile variations along with a high flange resulted in a gap of as much as 3/8". it seems to me also the little supports that are on the bottom of the toilet are 1/16" lower then the edge of the toilet. So already the toilet would have a gap of 1/16" IF the top of the flange was even with the tile.

I actually got a more decorative pattern and hand painted each one with a brush prior to installing. There was no brush strokes. The tip is to not overload your brush and use light strokes

You are making it to hard. The toilet flange sits on top of the finished floor. You put your wax ring on the flange and set the toilet. You're done.

Helpful when the flange actually sits on top of the finished floor. Remodels will often create variations.

I live in FL and am about to repair some drywall in one area of the house from some storm damage. I'm considering repairing the drywall and then instead of going through the pain of trying to paint match (old popcorn ceiling), just doing ceiling tiles like these. My concern is that if/when we get another hurricane and the drywall gets water damage, these ceiling tiles will conceal the damage and I will not be aware that I need to do a repair. Do you have any experience with identifying water damage behind these types of tiles, or if water damage will be noticeable?
@HomeImproveman4 ай бұрын
Your concern is reasonable. I don't think you would be able to notice water damage with these tiles is place and it would be difficult to test for damage as well. Unless you have a way to view the ceiling from above, I would probably skip the tiles.

if I can ask a question, just moved to a home where there is a ceiling paint peeling, i want to instead of repainting it do this ceiling install, want to check if its okay to sand down where the peeling is happening and then glue this on top of it. There is some moisture or humidity where we live in Hartford, Ct
@HomeImproveman5 ай бұрын
The best method is to have a completely clean surface. Barring that, scrap away any peeling paint and apply a heavy-duty primer like Killz. Be sure not to skimp on the the adhesive caulk. If I were you, I would apply more liberally than I did in the video so that if one spot fails, there is plenty of spots still adhering. You don't need to cover the tile, but place more dots of adhesive around the tile. Good luck.

Hate that we live in such a disposable society. I believe EVERY product we purchase should include ALL the info pertaining to it, i.e. schematics, part numbers, etc., so that I, if I so choose, will be able to troubleshoot and fix it without having to go through so much BS, wasted time and $$$ that it just becomes easier to chunk it and buy a new one. If it’s already broken why not try to DIY and have the experience to learn something new. Thanks for your videos, brother

not clear why you can't try cleaning the igniter before you replace it.
@HomeImproveman6 ай бұрын
Definitely try this, but a quick examination will often show this is futile. Propane and natural gas burn cleanly and leave no discernible residue to foul the igniter and because the igniter is recessed, it is rarely soiled by food.

Looking at both ignitors he holds up. The new one has a little pin at the top which has worn off the part that doesn't work

This is exactly the video I needed to watch. Now I just need to see if I can locate the parts I need to replace! 😊
@TheMaxAwesome7 ай бұрын
Sometimes it is not the igniter. Best thing to do when troubleshooting is swap out all the parts one by one to identify the root cause. In the case of a range, you have the igniter, which is a pain to swap, the base that channels the gas, and the plate that covers the base. These last two are easy to swap with any other burner that is the same size. In a recent case, I found that my igniter and plate were fine, but the base was either worn down or warped, and therefore not channeling gas the right way. Replacing the igniter would have been a huge waste of time and money!

I just swapped out an igniter for a client on his Fisher Paykel that the cleaning lady broke. This happened a long time ago so the thing wasn't used. Everything was fairly greasy so there was some cleaning involved. Anyway, the thing wouldn't light even though I could clearly see the spark and could smell the gas. I used a bbq lighter to test for gas dispersal and everything looked fine.... There was a gasket that separated the burner base from the entire top cover and it was badly damaged so I have him getting one of those in case it's a leak causing the issue and will try again. If I remember, I'll come back to share the result and/or possibly a solution.

The flange should be high enough so the horn on the bottom of the toilet can fit INSIDE the flange. Otherwise you're relying on the wax to seal the water and its really only to seal gases. Remember horn INSIDE of flange. Not even, not close, not above, INSIDE. Make it so with wouldn't leak even if you didn't have a wax ring.

The one I just did had a little metal 'A' shaped piece that I had to squeeze the two sides together and pull it out, releasing the ignitor.

Why Styrofoam versus plastic?
@HomeImproveman9 ай бұрын
I did not choose one over the other, this styrofoam is what I found with a design that I liked. I would imagine that the plastic would be more difficult to cut, but might be more sturdy. All the plastic that I have seen is for suspended ceilings, but it is possible that there is a plastic tile that glues onto drywall.

If the igniter is sparking why would you replace it?
@HomeImproveman9 ай бұрын
just like a spark plug in a car, the distance between the electrodes increase over time and usage. Spark may still be there, but it is weaker because of the increased distance. Clearly, the choice to replace them was the correct choice because it solved the problem.

Thank you for this excellent video. Your oven range design is nearly identical to mine. I am glad you showed that the burners have to be removed to raise the top by removing the two screws in the base of the burner. My front left burner that is used mostly will not ignite the gas unless another burner is sparking. Unfortunately, the head of 1 of the 2 screws in that burner had sheared off, making it impossible for me to remove, especially because the top of the shaft is below the surface. If you have any suggestion on how to remove the headless screw it would be soooo much appreciated. The anealed/hardened shaft of these screws is so small that it's very hard to drill into it. Your help in how to remove this headless screw shaft will be very much appreciated. Thank you
