@anthonyschreiberАй бұрын
A Corolla with only 220k miles might still have a lot of life left in it, if it has been properly maintained. Since the car is old and doesn’t have a very high book value you might feel more comfortable getting “adventurous” in cleaning it up. If you can find the correct color matched paint in a spray can I wouldn’t see any reason not to spray it yourself. Would it look like a new car? Nope. Would this be the advice I’d give someone with a much newer or higher value car? Nope. Will spray painting it look better than the rust looks now? Hell yeah, and you might learn something about prepping a car for paint and the painting process itself. In all likelihood, you’ll probably wind up with a “10 footer” where from that distance it looks fine but as you get closer you begin to see that it’s not a “proper” paint job. Do some web research, watch some KZbin videos, take a shot. Very little downside to trying.
@leegnichols7501Ай бұрын
First, I am so surprised to get a reply, and a very thoughtful reply, so thank you very much! My Corolla is living up to its reputation mechanically, the engine and transmission seem to be working well for 220,000 miles 🧡 however, the previous owner had no repair records at all😱and only stated that he loved it and wanted to keep it but was moving so he sold it, so I can only go on those vibes, proper maintenance is unknown 🤔 Like yours, my "RustyRolla" is also a dogmobile, so i bought it for dogs,not looks, and it is indeed excellent as a dogmobile, they love it😀but at this point the rust is really ugly😱so maybe I'll try your spray paint suggestion!? It's due for state inspection this month,and I expect it to fail on brakes and tires, plus check engine light is on, so I'm worried about potentially $2000-3000 in M&R due💙 it's a lovable Rusty Rolla, but for $2-3000, I'm thinking I should put that into another Rolla under$5000 that might last longer ❓ Thanks again for the response!

This car here in México was called Tsuru and was in production up until 2017, it was and still is in some places here, the work horse of many people who used it as taxis, corporate cars and even like pick up trucks (they cut the roof on the back and made a bed to put small to medium size things) at the end of it’s production it had a 1.6 engine and a 4 speed manual transmission, manual locks, mirrors and window, A/C and a radio as an optional extra. The only reason they stop making it is because in 2015 I think, the congress pass a law which required that all new cars sold in Mexican territory, must have at least 2 airbags, ABS and traction control. Today the cheapest car Nissan offers over here is last generation Nissan versa, they just changed the name to V-Drive, lowered the price and there is no longer a automatic transmission option

Yeah i guess the dash board in Florida.. i just bought a 2006 Toyota solara SE convertible. Would have preferred the SLE. But mine had 100,700 i think. I paid 3300. I replaced 2 tires and got tie rods installed and had alignment. The acceleration is a little sluggish. I have to bring it in to get looked at once the check engine light comes back. Might need to get the front cat converter replaced and maybe a tune up. My dash has a few little cracks but much better condition than yours. Im up in NJ so only have to worry about the heat a few months out of the year. My radio didn't work and then randomly started working again and now hasnt worked in like a week.. so that will be another thing to get looked at lol. I previously owned a 03 Solara SLE coupe a few years ago. Didn't have it that long until some girl hit me and totaled it, but i really liked it. Thats what i was looking for.. only had 3500 to spend and should have taken my time with buying a car. I wanted to get something with no issues.. I didn't get to test it out on the highway just the city and I didn't ask enough questions but my impression was the guy i bought it from originally bought it for his son, but his son changed his mind snd got a SUV. The guy i got it from said he did put a new radiator, alternator, lower control arm, and sway bar link. He had the tie rod part for me.. I thought that was all it needed.. but another lesson learned I guess. I'm just hoping it is a relatively simple fix and once i get it fixed it should be solid They are great vehicles when taken care of. I see a lot of people selling them with 150k 200k and still going strong I think yours should be nice once you get that dash re done and just keep up with maintenance. You will have to get that timing belt done soon and they say you should usually get the water pump and seals done at the same time
