I remember that old magazine with his interview in and hearing about this guy, I always wanted to play him as I was completely obsessed with street fighter and very good. He was the first person I ever heard talking about guiles standing punch into flash kick. I didn't know that stuff even existed back in the early days. Even now that stuff is hard to do. Game was light years ahead of time.

Funny commentators, and I especially like the part where they don't know what language they're trying to imitate, constantly referring to Japanese words and people as Korean, which is totally not insulting in any way... Well, maybe it's like they're insulting themselves, which they also totally are. Great match BTW...

It’s a shame he doesn’t play anymore. Seems he’s stuck between a rock and a hard place.. like if he played now and wasn’t godlike his legacy would be tarnished. Would have been nice to watch him be… the new challenger! Sorry had to put some 90’s cheese in that last line! 😂

Enjoyed this but it made me a bit sad because of the memories. I'm from his generation and I had read about him in my first street fighter strategy guide that I bought back in those days. The world was such a small place back then, in terms of how there was not a vast media outlet like today. I mean the internet came around about four yrs. later and it was just begenning it's infancy. I remember when some of my other friends I knew would look at me and ask me, "you dont know what the world wide web is?" I will always argue that the world we grew up in, though more isolated, was much more beatiful because we were much more innocent then. I miss growing up. 😢

Too bad he's already way past prime age for reaction time.
@k1anstation81Ай бұрын
@@burnerburner4074 reaction time doesn’t drop off as you age. Of course unless you're in your 60s. It's not the reaction time but rather how fast you can move your hands. Constant training every day can help retain that. For example 41 y/o Hayao's 3rd Strike run at Evo 2024, 37 y/o Knee's run at Evo 2022, 43 y/o Daigo being still unbeatable in long sets and Justin Wong still being one of the top 3 MvC2 players in the world as well as in top form in many other fighting games.

lol! I'm so delusional with time that it feels so strange to hear blurred memories from the time. I know it was 30 years ago but it was last weekend, as far as my brain is concerned. Watts and I had a room together for that pinball gig. Sidenote, Disney channel was there filming some footage from the event, interviewing players on the day and having them perform their favorite special moves and combos in real life. If anyone gets that footage, it's gotta be lols! Also, I'm pretty sure Jeff played Daigo on the anniversary edition that allowed for CE characters and insta-dizzies. U.S. also got 1st and 2nd in that version at Evo, iirc, Alex Wolfe and Jason Nelson. Also, having been around for lots of these convos, I very specifically remember Kuni being asked about skill levels and, not to discount what was said, here, but he said Japan had maybe "4" players on Tomo's level, at the time, maybe. ... just last week, tho. O_O
@SlickRick4EVER Жыл бұрын
Apoc, so (in an ideal world) if you were to pin Tomo Ohira and Masao Tachikawa (the 1992 Japanese SF2:CE Arcade Champion) on their prime, who would believe would have won?
@OGSF_Apoc Жыл бұрын
@@SlickRick4EVER On CE, hard to imagine but the imbalance is so bad. If it was on the more challenging and more balanced HF, I only know enough to put Tomo, on top. I've yet to see proof from anywhere in the world, that anyone was above the level at World's Finest. I've seen Japanese footage of HF and I've called it out, plenty, over the years, as being pretty bad. No one has challenged or offered better footage, from the time. Even as far as knowledge goes, all evidence points to socal being the 100% best at HF and Tomo was the best of us. Tbh, I wouldn't care about CE, lol. HF is everything CE is, with far better balance and more challenging speed. On CE, anyone can react. You don't have to be fast, at all.
