I love this! I hiked up Flattop a long time ago with 2 of my boys who were 8 and 6 at the time. It was super special and I think that was the moment they became hikers and wanted to come along with me. It's so interesting to see it covered in snow. I have never skied but if I did I think I would do cross country skiing or gentle downhills. Great video!!

What an incredible hike and adventure for your whole family. Very scenic and such great views. That's a lot of elevation gain, especially since it's the second half of your hike. I imagine you all were carrying lots and lots of water too.
@ruggedland14 күн бұрын
Thanks Vickie. It was a great hike and highlight of our 2-week holiday road trip through some western states. The advantage of hiking GC in winter is the pleasant temps. It’s about 30-40 at rim and 50-60 at river, so water consumption was moderate. My son and I each carried 2 liters of water. We also fill up at Phantom Ranch and drank a few cups of lemonade so we were fairly hydrated before heading back up. It was a lot of elevation gain but certainly doable as a day hike for an avid hiker

A beautiful video! I have seen other videos re the Fiery Furnace; I think yours is the most fun. Excellent music. Watching you step over a drop and butt-slide on slick rock, trusting your foot-arrest, makes me think of John Muir's Stickeen dog adventure, which is truly exhilarating. The story can be read via a Project Gutenberg link at Wikipedia: "Stickeen: An Adventure with a dog and a glacier." It is hard to believe one's own relief when the dog exits the crevasse. The story has 20 pages; the dog's danger begins about page 14. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stickeen:_An_Adventure_with_a_Dog_and_a_Glacier Thanks for your video!

Thanks Mark. There is a way to scramble up the ridge of El Cap from Guadalupe Peak trail near the summit. Someone made a video of it and it’s a lot of bushwhack. No one has rock-climbed the face yet as the park forbids that due to very loose nature of the rock
