Watching this again and again into 2024 🖤 Does anyone else see what might be allusions to his Magic Position era in the night safari video? Maybe he has discussed the imagery on his Patreon (I’m a member but haven’t properly kept up with it! Btw all the fans here should join it if you haven’t.) But anyway, the outfit with the hair that’s muddy reminds me of his hair in that era (looks red under the mud) and the outfit too. Plus the figure who is probably his mom is lining very sparkly shirts to dry on the clothesline. So interesting given how loud, visible, and joyful-presenting that era was, in contrast with the isolated and dark time he’s been in before releasing this album. I love him so much and I’m so glad he’s come back with art like this 🖤🖤🖤

Although it seems unfair to the artist and his later work, I can't help but feel that this is his magnum opus. It is no less than a perfect neo-romantic suite of beautifully written and produced songs and lyrics that would not appear foreign to Keats, Byron or Shelley. The topics of striving for freedom and its cost, of seeking, finding and losing love, entangled with the landscape of Cornwall, the imagery of pilgrimage, nature, birds, ships, autumn storms, the sea, it is so meticulous and exquisite and yet utterly heartfelt. One of the finest works of British music in the 21st century or ever and there is nothing comparable in this vein, to my mind, but for PJ Harvey's White Chalk and I Inside the Old Year Dying albums. Either hold up against Schubert's Winterreise.
