Sacrilege tearing down Chicago Stadium. I was around 13-15 and growing up near Saginaw MI in the late 80s - early 90s so I saw Eddie Belfour play for the Saginaw Hawks. After a a game, he and Warren Rychel signed a puck for me. I bought a Starter Chicago Blackhawks winter jacket as a fan even though living in Michigan and it was Red Wings country and I was a huge DRW fan I also loved the Hawks as well. Those Norris games they played back then were hockey heaven, each team had stars and fighters and it was glorious. I'm also a huge lover of organ / keyboard music, the sound of the organ at the Stadium is not able to be replicated, this is a great recording of it.

Definitely the best version on KZbin! It's a pity we couldn't see him play though. Edit... I discovered his two part KZbin video Organ Imperial which is judt stunning. Interesting though that on this CD he brings out the reeds at 00:37 stronger than he does on the live performance. But both are just exceptional!

I would love to have the score, does anybody know if it was printed?I am not happy with it at some places , but sensationbal anyhow! And his virtuosity and psychomotoric abilities are demonstrated here at their best

Curses to the city planners and The Wertz's for tearing the building down and losing the Barton organ. This was one of the stupidest moves in Chicago and American history!

This was the very first organ CD when I went to live in Amsterdam. I knew I liked church organs a lot but I did not know what I wanted to buy. So I went to this nice music store Named Concierto (it is still there) and asked what would be a good record to buy. And this is what the gentleman put into my hands. It is still one of my favorite records.

This from a time when people were cultured. I believe the organ still exists in a private residence that was a converted VFW facility.

When making this recording Carlo had great problems and had to redo a lot of this recording during the night and early morning as to his horror it was bastille day and they were large explosions going off.

Wow! The great Van den Heuvel organ as I've never heard it on any other recording! Carlo Curley, RIP, enjoyed playing in a sumptuous romantic style and was notably communicative with his audiences.

This has to be (in my opinion) the greatest piece of music of all time.... Some say that the Toccata and Fugue in D minor is Bach calling to God (credit to V.F. for that).... I however feel that it is this piece... the interweaving of the simple melody line spoken in every (tongue and language) that man has ever known... This piece calls to God.... God Omnipotent... God all knowing... God all loving... To play this piece takes a herculean effort and split second timing.... if the organist hesitates or should false start the piece loses its charm and charisma.... Carlo had heavenly help from the spirit of God and second V.F. who was his best friend in life.... Carlo has since this been reunited with Our Heavenly Father and his best friend Virgil Fox.... I can only imagine when Carlo stepped into the gates of Heaven and He suddenly was surrounded by Virgil Fox, Handel, Lizt and so many others....all those men saying Welcome home....

How I miss Fred. I was introduced to the glory of organ music during his time at Riverside Church. He gave us the best of this remarkable instrument. He gave his gift to the end. It will always be with us. As will Fred Swann.

In my honest opinion, this is Bach's crowning organ achievement. His life was devoted to God, and this monumental piece is so inspiring! I can only imagine being there in person when this was recorded.. Wonderful!

“Blackhawk goal Dirk Graham…” Always wanted to go to a Hawks game there as a kid in Michigan. Loved the organ watching on TV50 in Detroit. JLA was pretty good, but Chicago Stadium gave me a taste of what the old Olympia must have been like.

There was NOTHING in todays hockey world that exists like OLD Chicago Stadium. The organ playing Here Comes the Hawks. playing the recorded song when the Hawk's took the ice with the fans cheering was so electric. So happy I got to watch so many great Blackhawk games at old Chicago Stadium. Wayne Messmer, singing the National Anthem was ELECTRIFYING with the fans going nuts, Tony Esposito, the SSL line Savard, Larmer and Secord, such great times.
